Over $14,000 taken in break-in An estimated $14,850 was taken from a Hoke County residence in a break-in that occurred sometime in the last month, reports from the Hoke County Sheriffs Depart ment show. When William Gill returned home after about a month out of town, he found eight rooms in his house ransacked along with his tool shed, according to reports. Taken from the house was a VHS video cassette recorder, a portable Beta video recorder and camera, an entire stereo system, a Sony television, a 12 gauge Brown ing automatic shotgun, a 30-30 Remington rifle, a Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar, an amplifier, a tool box full of tools, a Pentax camera and lenses and a satellite dish, reports say. The investigation is continuing into the matter, according to reports. In an unrelated incident, jack Lanier reported an attempted break-in at Midway Mobile Homes. While he was sitting in his of fice, two men threw a chair through the window and attempted to enter. Lanier stepped out of the trailer office and fired a gun over the heads of the two subjects and they ran, reports say. Lanier could not identify the men. In other area incidents involving mobile homes, David Home, of Country Fair Mobile Homes reported last Monday that a trailer was cleaned out before it was repossessed. Taken from the trailer were two beds, a washer and dryer, tables and a dinette set, according to reports. The materials are valued at S2.125, reports say. No warrants have been issued on the former occupant of the trailer. Nina Ruth Ray reported that a rental trailer owned by her was robbed on June 8. A warrant has been issued on Nigel Baldwin, the occupant of the trailer, for felonious possession of stolen property, according to reports. Baldwin now lives at Lot 2, Hart's Mobile Home Park, according to reports. Confiscated from Baldwin's trailer was a couch, two chairs, two end tables and a coffee table, reports say. The furniture belongs to Ray, reports say. De Larry McLean, of 923 North Jackson Street was arrested by the Raeford Police Department and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, according to Police Chief Leonard Wiggins. McLean was charged after Neil R. McLean was found in the garage area of his house with a stab wound, Wiggins said. Police were alerted by a neighbor, Wiggins said. Neil McLean was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, the chief added. Last Saturday James Edward Daniels reported his 1963 General Motors pick-up stolen from his yard, according to Wiggins. The truck was found later that day on the same street it was reported missing from with the battery missing, Wiggins said. There were also small footprints found around the truck, he said. On June 16, Bobby Smith reported a riding lawnmower miss ing from his residence. According to Wiggins, the mower was valued at $1,000. Drunk driving charge draws jail Hoke County District Court Judge Lacy Hair sentenced a Red Springs man to a total of 61 days in jail last Thursday after he was con victed of driving while impaired (DWI), driving with his license revoked and aiding another person to drive while impaired. Willie M. McCall, 39, was ar rested on January 20 and charged with DWI, eluding arrest and driv ing with his license revoked, according to court records. McCall was sentenced to two years suspended for five years supervised probation and an active sentence of 60 days on those charges, records say. The extra day was given him after being convicted of aiding Steven Aldon McLaughlin to drive while impaired, records say. McCall was arrested on that charge on March 2, according to a citation issued him. The man was sentenced to 24 hours in jail. Jewel Wayne McEachin, of Fayetteville, wj*s also convicted of DWI, according to records. The 27-year-old McEachin was sentenced to 12 months suspended for two years on supervised proba tion and placed in jail for 14 days for DWI and driving with his license revoked, records say. According to court records, McEachin was arrested on May 12. A Pembroke resident, Fermon Lee McNeill, was also convicted of DWI and driving with his license revoked, according to records. McNeill, 49, was sentenced to 12 months suspended for three years on special supervised probation and fined $500, records say. McNeill was also ordered to spend 21 days in jail. Mack Ray Williams, a Ft. Bragg resident, was sentenced to 60 days suspended for one year ansuperviaed probation, 24 hours fai jail aad fined S100 after being eomrkmd of DWI, records say. Jeannette Shaw Pittman, a resi dent of Pinehurst, was sentenced to 60 days suspended for one year unsupervised probation and fined $100 after a DWI conviction, ac cording to records. The 64-year-old Pittman was ar rested and charged on February 26, records say. In other court action, William Hulett, of Shannon, was sentenced to 60 days in jail after not paying a $150 fine, according to records. On February 15, Hulett was given a suspended sentence and ordered to pay $150 in restitution for bad checks he had written. The man failed to pay, say records. Credit was given the man for 14 days in jail. Charles Edward Scott, of Raeford, was given a 30 day suspended sentence after being convicted of assaulting a woman, records say. According to a warrant for Cox's arrest, the man hit Alberta Cox. The 36-year-old man was ordered to pay $99.50 in restitu tion, records say. A Raeford man, Norman McMillian, was convicted of trying to sell a stereo, bunk beds, a car stereo and a television that belong ed to Heilig Myers, court records show. A warrant was drawn on the man on October 26, 1983. McMillian was sentenced to 90 days suspended for a fine of SI 50, according to records. Elroy Douglas, a 19-year-old Raeford man, was sentenced to 90 days suspended for 190 restitution after being convicted of stealing Robert Campbell's car batter, records say. A Red Springs man, George Hollingsworth, was given a 30 day suspended sentence after being convicted of writing a number of worthless checks, records say. On April 26, Hollingsworth bounced one to Highland Distributers Co., Inc., records say. For that charge, the man was sentenced to 30 days suspended and ordered to pay $60 in restitu tion. In cases that were consolidated for judgement, Hollingsworth was ordered to pay $429 in restitution to Atlas Distributing, Southern Distributing and Smithson Beverage Co., records say. Lizzie K.
