Bucks win first After capturing the first win of the season last week., the Hoke High Bucks football team will be playing the role of giant killers against Richmond County in Fri day night action. "In our frame of mind, we might do it. Nobody thinks we can do it, but we're going to try," Coach Tom Jones said Monday. When all looked bleak for the Bucks, the team turned things around on an 0-6 season and shutout West Robeson 18-0 last Friday. The Bucks face a sterner task this week when they go up against 6-1 Richmond Senior in Rock ingham. The Raiders have not lost a game since the opening contest of the season, and the team is tied with Scotland for the conference lead with a 4-0 record. Last Friday, Dwayne Stubbs rushed for 94 yards in 15 carries for the Bucks to help fill the void created by injured Terrell Carpenter. Quaterback Ricky Chavis com pleted five of 11 passes for 65 yards during the West Robeson victory. Steve Lovette and Charles Douglas were on the receiving end to lead the Bucks to the 18-0 win. "I'm proud of our kids. They have found to win, you can never give up," Jones said. "The way the kids continue to work has been a great tribute to this team," he added. "We're facing an extremely good football team in Richmond County. "To look at a bumblebee, you'd think it couldn't fly. To look at us, you might think we can't win, but we're going to try," the coach add ed. "We might surprise some peo ple," he said.
