DWI case fill district court Five people were found guilty of driving while impaired (DWI) dur ing last week's session of District Court. Theodore Macon Carrington Jr., 16 Colonial Pines Dr., Pinehurst, plead guilty to driving while impaired (DWI) and was sentenced to 60 days suspended for one year. Carrington is also to pay a $100 fine and court costs; attend alcohol and drug education traffic school; and perform 24 hours of com munity service. Records say that Carrington was driving left of the center line Sun day, July 14 when he was arrested on N. Main Street in Raeford. Frederick Carsa Morrisey, Rt. 3, Raeford, was arrested at 1:25 a.m. on Saturday, June 15 on the 401 Bypass. near Hardees and charged with driving while impaired (DWI), records show. Morrisey was sentenced to a one-year prison term, but he ap pealed the judgement. According to the records, Mor risey's bond has been set at $1 ,000. A San Antonio, Texas, man was found guilty of driving while im paired (DWI). Aaron Douglas Davis Jr. was ar rested at 10 p.m. September 18 by Sgt. R.D. Collins, records show. Collins stopped Davis on N. Jackson Street because Davis was driving in a careless and reckless manner and had not stopped for a stop sign, records say. In District Court, Davis plead guiltyto the driving while impaired charge and received a 90-day sentence suspended for one year. He is also to pay a $200 fine and court costs. James McRae, Rt. 1 Shannon, was sentenced to 60 days suspend ed for one year on a driving while impaired charge, records show. McRae was also fined court costs and $100; must attend alcohol and drug education traffic school; and perform 24 hours of community service. Records show that McRae was arrested on St. Paul's Drive in Raeford at 9:10 p.m. on Sunday, October 13. Gailon Leak, Rt. 4, Red Springs, plead guilty to driving while impaired (DWI). Records say that Leak, 24, was driving real slow and hitting his brakes while driving on Harris Avenue in Raeford on October 3 when he was arrested at 1:39 a.m. Leak was sentenced to 60 days suspended for one year; fined $100 and court costs; ordered to attend alcohol and drug education traffic school and perform 24 hours of community service. Also in District Court, the assault case against Hoke County Commissioner Wyatt Upchurch has been continued until the December 6 session of District Court. In another case, Barbara M. McKoy, Rt. 1, Red Springs, was found guilty of eight counts of ?Employment Security violations. McKoy was sentenced to no less than 9 months, no more than 12 months suspended for 3 years and was fined $100, records say. McKoy was ordered to make restitution of $729. Gary A. Thompson, Lumber Bridge, was also found guilty of Employment Security violations. According to the records, Thompson filed claims for unemployment insurance benefits when he was working for Staff Resources, Inc. Thompson was found guilty of four counts of Employment Security violations and received a six month suspended sentence. In another District Court case, Walter Reid Holt, Bethune Street, Raeford, plead guilty to appearing in an intoxicated and disruptive condition in front of the National Guard Armory the night of September 20. Records say that Holt, 43, was grabbing, shaking and challenging people to fight close to 9:15 that evening. During the fray, Holt assaulted and struck Stephen Coughlin, a law enforcement officer with the Raeford Police Department as the officer was attempted to place Holt under arrest. Holt also plead guilty to assaulting R.W. Tindell, a law en forcement officer with the Hoke County Sheriff's Department, and possessing marijuana. Holt was sentenced to two years, suspended for three years and is to perform 100 hours of community service at Sandhills Mental Health Center. Records also indicate that* Shirley Stewart Redman, 1012 Port St., Laurinburg was found guilty of a misdemeanor larceny charge. Redman, 30, stole 15 bottles of cologne from the Revco Drug Store, records say. Redman was sentenced to one year, suspended for three years. As a special term of probation, Redman is to serve an active prison term of 30 days. Redman was also ordered to pay a S2S0 fine and court costs. In another case, James Allen Oxendine, Box 597, Shannon, plead guilty to transporting spirituous liquor in a container other than the manufacture's original bottle in the passenger sec tion of an automobile. Records show that while Oxen dine was transporting the liquor his license was permanently revok ed. Oxendine was sentenced to 2 years, suspended for two years and was ordered to pay a fine of S500. Also, Hazel McLaughlin, 200 Reeves Rd., Raeford, was found guilty of larceny by a trick. Records say that McLaughlin carried away four gallons of gasoline from the Party Shoppe, Rt. 1, Raeford, on October 31 without paying for them. McLaughlin told a clerk she would pay for the gasoline, but drove away without paying, records say. McLaughlin was sentenced to 90 days suspended for one year and ordered to pay a $50 fine. Deaths & Funerals Benjamin Hendrix Benjamin Franklin Hendrix, 59, died Saturday morning at his home on 1 17 Chilton Drive. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Living Faith Ministries Church by Rev. Tex Deaton. Burial was in Raeford Cemetery. Survivors are his wife: Mrs. Ruth B. Hendrix; one son: Clyde F. (Bucky) Hendrix of West End; one daughter: Cheryl Hendrix of Gibson, South Carolina; five brothers: Willie G. Hendrix, Robert G. Hendrix, Noah Hen drix, Howard Hendrix and Lonnie Hendrix, all of Raeford; two step daughters: Mrs. Jean Wade of Raeford; and Mrs. Marie Guin of Raeford; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren. Texie Mae Heath Mrs. Texie Mae Heath, 59, died Monday, November 18 in the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Graveside services were held Wednesday, November 20 at 3 p.m. at the Rockfish Tabernacle Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Mike Osment. Survivors are her husband, Paul Heath of Rockfish; two sons: Lynn Heath of Charlotte and Mark Heath of Clio, South Wieland honored SSG Gary M. Wieland, the North Carolina Army National Guard's recruiter for Hoke Coun ty, received several awards at the Recruiting and Retention Annual Awards Banquet, November 9. Sgt. Wieland was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for "ex ceptional dedication and profes sional competence in the areas of recruiting, retention and public relations" during the period of 1 October 1984 thru 30 September 1985. Sergeant Wieland also received a Digital Desk Clock recognizing his outstanding performance during his first six months as a recruiter, and he was awarded the gold. Senior Recruiter Badge for ex ceeding 1009b of his mission dur ing the past year. Crumpler Funeral Home served the family. James Stanton James Walker Stanton, 74, died Wednesday in Fayetteville. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home in Fayet teville. Dr. John Y. Todd, III and Rev. Neill Bain officiated. Burial was in LaFayette Memorial Park with full masonic rites. He is survived by his wife, Myra Bain Stanton; one sister: Mrs. Eunice Bonist of Hamlet; four brothers: J.C. Stanton of Wagram, Elmore Stanton of Max ton, Ervin Stanton of Raeford and Duncan Stanton of Fayetteville. Billy Duane Van Allen Billy Duan'e Van Allen, 50, of Rt. 1 Supply, died Wednesday, November 13 in Brunswick Hospital. Van Allen was a retired 1st Sgt. in the U.S. Army. He was the son of the late Glen and Ida Van Allen of Phillipsbury, Kansas. Van Allen is survived by his wife: Mrs. Bobbie Jean Van Allen of the home; three sons: William D. Van Allen of Mrytle Beach, South Carolina: Cameron R. Phillips of Greensboro; and Robin Scott Phillips of Raeford; five brothers: John and Walter of Vac conville, California; Lelond of Phillipsbury, Kansas; Red of Truth or Consequences, New Mex ico and Mike Van Allen of Thibadaux, Louisiana; four sisters: Mrs. Velda Mederitus of Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Darlene Maham of Pleasant Hill, Califor nia; Mrs. Betty Ham of Bisom, Kansas and Mrs. Reva Dickson of Midland, Texas, and one grand child.
