Sports Free throws are key to Bucks games Free throws determined the out come of Hoke High's two basket ball games last week, according to Coach George Drawhorn. "We missed 14 free throws and they hit 20 free throws, and that was the difference in the ball game," Drawhorn said of the Buck's game against the Seventy First Falcons last Tuesday night. The Falcons beat the Bucks 67-64. Seventy-First's Daryle McNair hit two important free throws with only 12 seconds left in the game and teammate Marvin Clayton managed to hit another one with only three seconds left. The Bucks missed their chance of winning the game early by not converting their free throws when they were leading 19-8. "We out shot them from the field 58-48," Drawhorn said. "But it was just a matter of who is going to miss free throws and who is go ing to make them." The Bucks held the lead in the game all the way up to the 3:02 mark of the third quarter. With 22 points, Hoke's Steve Hamilton topped the rest of the scorers in the game. Teammate Marin Maynor came in just behind Hamilton with 19 points. The girls lost their game with Seventy-First 36-34. Tuesday night's games left Hoke High's varsity team with a 2-2 record. The girls team finished the night 1-3. Because the Bucks lost Tuesday's game against Seventy First on free throws. Coach Drawhorn concentrated on the problem during the practices leading up the team's game with Cape Fear on Friday night. The Bucks came out on top with a 79-77 victory over the Cape Fear Colts. "We only missed three free throws during the night; they (Cape Fear) missed nine," Drawhorn said. The Bucks hit 15 of 18 free shots. The most crutial of those shots were made by Steve Hamilton with 13 seconds left to play. Hamilton brought Hoke up to a 79-75 lead, enough to keep his team ahead despite a field goal made by Cape F^arfs Mike Dar dan. v Hamilton brought in 20 points for the Bucks Friday night and was high scorer for the game. Marvin Manor followed by br inging in 19 points for the local team. Friday's win brought the Buck's record to 3-2. "The team was pumped up and ready to play Friday night," com mented Coach Drawhorn. The girls team lost their game against Cape Fear 44-46 bringing their record to 1-4. During the Christmas break, Drawhorn said the Bucks will be practicing two hours each morning with one day off for Christmas. "We've got a lot to put in," Drawhorn said. ??- - " - Christinas See how easy CKristmas SKopping can be... In Raeford Santa DOOR PANEL ? Weather-proof >FI?? ino^i dnori 77 / 4> ( ?
