Bucks win game against South View, record stands at 4-2 With a 67-63 victory over South View last Tuesday, the Hoke High Bucks brought their record up to 4-2. Coach George Drawhorn credits the win in part to a new strategy used by the team during the game. "Before we've been running the ball and playing from end to end," Drawhorn said. That old strategy resulted in a lot of turnovers during the game. "This time we walked the ball up and got a lot of chances to shoot," Drawhorn said. "It also gave my starting five a chance to rest." Juniors Marvin Maynor and Steve Hamilton are two of those starters and between them they scored a total of 39 points during the game with South View. Maynor brought in the game high 21 points and Hamilton made 18 points. "Marvin and Steve are my one two punch at the time," Drawhorn said. "But, "the coach added, "we don't want to look at this as a superstar team." The Bucks have been playing non-conference games up to this point and they have two more to play against Red Springs. On January 3. they will begin their conference season with a home game against West Robeson. "Things are tougher when we get into conference games," Drawhorn said. In non-conference games, you're just playing a lot of guys and trying to find the right com bination, the coach said. "But when the conference games begin it becomes more im portant to win because every game determines whether or not you go to the state championship games in Greensboro," Drawhorn said. During practice sessions this week, the team will continue to work on its half-court game and "getting the guys to have con fidence in each other,** Drawhorn said. "Once we have confidence in each other, we're going to be a real super team," he predicted. Drawhorn said he is appreciative of the support the community has liven his team this season. "We want to thank our friends in the community for their support so far, and we're going to continue to need it as we get into the con ference games." Drawhorn said. The Hoke High girls' team also won over South View 40-37. The Junior Varsity team lost their game 46-50.
