January 24,1996 In Weeks to Come In Hoke C6unty January 25 MEN’S BASKETBALL LEAGUE — The Hoke County Parks and Recreation Men’s Basketball League will play on Jan. 25. Wilson’s Barber Shop team will play Merchant Grocery at 6:30 p.m. Beasley’s team will play the Just Do It team, coached by Nelson James at 7:30 p.m. and CPA USA team will play House of Raeford team at 8:30. All games are at Upchurch School Gym. January 25 ROBBINS HEIGHTS COMMUNITY MEETING —The Robbins Heights Community meeting will be held Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. at Mount Sinai Holy Church at 7 p.m. The church is located on 7th Avenue and Stevens Street. The group will discuss organizing a community watch program, community update information and community networking. For transportation for the elderly, call 875-8743. January 25 and January 29 PROJECT EMBRACE — Project Embrace sponsors “Little Miss G” of Hoke County. Sign up from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hoke County Public Library. Applications are also available at the library. Call Lady G. at 425-8130 for information. All the girls, ages 4 to 12 are encouraged to enter. Chairman J.A. Killian says that the public is invited to attend. Representing Hoke County are Bobby Conoly, Emma Mims and Ireni Autry. February 4 CENTER GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH — The Hon. Clyde Thomas Jr., a member of the Raeford City Council, will be speaking at Center Grove Baptist Church in Antioch. He will speak on black history to the youth group. The public is invited. February 12 ANNUAL MEETING — Northwest Water Supply Inc. will have its annual meeting at its office at 668 Dockery Road in Raeford. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. All members are asked to attend. February 17 PROJECT EMBRACE — In order to raise funds. Project Embrace will sponsor a “Little Miss G.” pageant at 7 p.m. at the J.W. Turlington j^uditorium. Project Embrace seeks to promote racial harmony and brotherhood among today’s youth by organizing youth-related activities and helping youth organizations raise funds. Admission to the event is free. The public is invited. Nearby *■, January 25 - February 11 “CRAZY FOR YOU” — Cape Fear Regional Theater presents “Crazy for You,” a Tony-award winning play. The musical features Gershwin tunes such as “Someone to Watch Over Me.” The show previews on Thursday, Jan. 25 and Friday, Jan. 26 w ith half-price tickets of $7. The show opens Saturday, Jan. 27 and continues through Feb. 11. Ticket prices range from $12 to $16. Call 323- 4233 for information. January 26 SUBSTANCE ABUSE WORKSHOP — The Fayetteville State University Center for Continuing Educa tion will sponsor a “Substance Abuse Workshop” on Friday, Jan. 26. The workshop will be held 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fee is $25. January 27 CAPE FEAR BALLROOM DANCERS —The Qpe Fear Ballroom dancers will have a black and white masked ball and dinner dance from 6 p.m. until midnight Saturday, Jan. 27. The ball will be held at the Versailles Ballroom at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux in Fayetteville. Call 864-3004 for information. The social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner starting at 7 p.m. The dance will last from 8 p.m. until midnight. The public is invited, membership is not required. Reservations are necessary. Tickets are $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Black tie is optional. January 28 TRADITIONAL WOODWORKING SERIES — The Museum of the Cape Fear sponsors the third in a yearlong series of “18th and 19th Century Skills” on Jan. 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. when Rob Siewers, museum carpenter, provides a tradi tional woodworking demonstration. January 29 AUDITIONS — Auditions will be held for Missoula Children’s Theater (MCT) production of The Wizard Of Oz Monday, Jan. 29 at the Carolina Civic Center, in downtown Lumberton at 315 N. Chestnut St., from 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. All those auditioning should arrive at 4:00 p.m. and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast memt^rs will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the auditions. January 30 LAND SEMINAR — A seminar, “How to Protect Private Land for the Future” will be held Jan. 30 at 4:30 p.m. at the Cumberland County Library in the Pate Room. The seminar, which is being offered in Fayetteville by the conservation Trust for North Carolina, will begin at 4:30 p.m. Camilla Herlevich, a private attorney specializing in conservation easement and Charles Roe, director of the Conservation Trust for North Carolina, are featured speakers. January 30 CHRISTIAN VOCAL GROUP “ACAPPELLA” — The Christian vocal group “Accapella” will perform at 7 p.m. at the Fayetteville Civic Center. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. Proceeds will benefit The Women’s Center. Tickets can be purchased at 323-3377. February 2- February 3 OFALA ‘96 — Fayetteville Parks and Recreation presents Ofala “96 at Smith Recreation Center. February 6 — February 20 CHAUTAUQUA — The Museum of the Cape Fear is sponsoring its fifth annual African-American Chautauqua with three public performances. The first is scheduled on Feb. 6 at the Cape Fear Regional Theater; the second is scheduled on Feb. 15 at Richmond Community College in Hamlet; and the third is scheduled for Feb. 20 at the Cumberland County Public Library and Information Center. All performances are free and begin at 7 p.m. February 7 FUNDRAISER — The Volunteers For American Lung Association will have a Brunch-Card Party benefit beginning at 11 a.m., at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst with piano music presented by Myra Robinson. After an 11:30 seated brunch, guests may play bridge or some other table game. February 7 PARENTS WITHOUT PARTNERS — The Highland Chapter 396 of Parents without Partners Inc. of Fayetteville will meet Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Shoney’s Restaurant in the Westwood Shopping Center in Fayetteville. February 12-February 13 AUDITIONS — Spring Lake Little Theater announced auditions for “How to eat like a Child (and Other Lessons in not Being Grown-Up). BASKETBALL CAMP REGISTRATION — Registration is now open for the 18th annual Bryan Adrian Summer Basketball Camp. Boys and girls, ages 5 to 18 are eligible. TAE KWON DO KARATE LESSONS — Lumberton Recreation department is offering tae kwon do classes. Classes are held every Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the activity room at the Bill Sapp Center. The cost is only $25 per month.
