DEMOCRATIC PARTY CONVENTION — All are
invited to attend the Hoke County Democratic
Party Convention to be held Saturday, April 13 at
noon at the Hoke County Courthouse. The
purpose of the meeting is to meet the Demoaatic
candidates and elect congressional district
convention delegates, state convention delegates
and two members to each of the following
executive committees: judicial, state senatorial
and state House of Representatives. For more

SPECIAL SERVICES — Bethel Presbyterian Church will
hold special services Sunday, April 14 through
Tuesday, April 16 with Pastor Fred Dinkins of
the Galatian Community. Dinkins is a retired
missionary. He will speak Sunday morning at
9:30 a.m. and each night at 7 p.m.
April 16
HOKE EXPO — Applications are now being accepted for
Hoke/Raeford’s second annual business exposi
tion, scheduled for April 24 from 10 a.m. to 7:30
p.m. at the National Guard Armory. Cost to
exhibit is $100 for an inside booth and $200 for a
large outside booth. For registration information,
call Judy Sheets at 875-1203. The deadline to
register is April 16.
April 28
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION — The New Life choir
of Full Gospel Temple will be celebrating their
anniversary on Sunday, April 28 at 3:30 p.m.
Everyone is cordially invited to attend. The

CAMP ROCKFISH — Camp Rockfish will have an Open
House on Sunday, April 28. There will be free
canoeing, swimming, archery, picnic lunch,

HORSE SHOW — The South-Central District 4-H Horse
Show will be held at Larry Williams Quarter
Horses on U.S. Highway 401. The host club is
Hoke County 4-H Horse Club. The show will be
at 10 a.m. and tickets are $1 for parking.
Participants must be in 4-H. There will be speed
events as well as hunt seat and pleasure classes.
The show is open to ages 5 to 18. Interested

BICYCLE RIDE — Duffie Community Organization is
having their annual bicycle ride Saturday, May
25 at 8 a.m. Fees are $5 for children and $10 for
adults.

ANNUAL WAGON TRAIN — The Hoke County Annual
Wagon Train will be held Father’s Day weekend,

WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP TRIP — The Women’s
Fellowship at Full Gospel Temple will be
sponsoring a trip to Philadelphia, Penn., on July

WEAPONS PICKUP — The Students Against Violence
Everywhere, along with the Cumberland County
Law Enforcement have joined in a county-wide
effort to stop violence in the community on April
20. Beginning at 10 a.m., call law enforcement

“TORTOISE AND THE HARE” — The Moore Creative
Arts and BB&T Insurance Services presents “The
Tortoise and The Hare” on Saturday, April 20 are

FASHION EXTRAVAGANZA — On April 26 at the
Holiday Inn Bourdeaux, the Hospital Hospitality
House of Fayetteville will have a “Spring into
Summer” fashion extravaganza from noon to 2
p.m. The event is sponsored by the Cumberland
County Medical Society Alliance. Tickets will be
sold in advance for $16 per person, $125 for a

CAPE FEAR BALLROOM DANCERS — The Ope Fear
Ballroom Dancers will have “Some Enchanted
Evening” Dinner Dance on Friday, April 26 from
6:30 p.m. until midnight. The dance will be held
at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux on Owen Drive in
Fayetteville. Admission is $25 for member and
$35 for non-members. Roy Roach Orchestra will
be playing smooth and Latin ballroom music. The

THE SISTERS ROSENBURG” — Cape Fear Regional
Theater presents “The Sisters Rosenburg”
preview on Friday, April 26 with a bargain half-
price ticket of 47. The show opens Saturday,
April 27 and continues through may 12 with

BRYAN ADRIAN SUMMER BASKETBALL CAMP —
Final registration is now being held for the 18th
annual Bryan Adrian summer basketball camp.
Boys and girls, ages 5 to 18 are eligible. Included

FITNESS CLASSES — Beginning April 15, fitness
classes, nutritional tips and aerobics classes will
be held Monday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7
p.m. at the VFW Post 7390 on Highway 401. The
classes are sponsored by the Hoke County

TUTORS NEEDED —The Hoke Reading/Literacy
Council is desperately seeking adult volunteers
tutors. Free training is available. For more

DAY CARES — Day care homes can be reimbursed for
the cost of food served to children through the
Child Care Food Program. All day care homes
registered with the state are eligible for participa
tion in the program, which is part of the National
School Lunch Act. Participants receive a monthly
check which averages about $450 for meals and
snacks served to children. The program also
provides menu ideas and nutritional education.

SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN — Hoke County School
System is presently attempting to locate and
identify disabled children not presently enrolled
- in school and place them in an appropriate
educational setting. If you know of any child,
ages 2 to 21, with special needs who might
qualify for this service, call Brenda Edge,
director of the exceptional children’s program
and section 504 coordinator at 875-2830 or the
Board of Education, 310 Wooley Street, Raeford,
between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through
Friday.
NOONDAY PRAYER SERVICE and Ministry of Helps
will be held each Tuesday at noon at Pentecostal
Temple Church of God in Christ at 306 Stevens
Street in Jones Hill. The Elder Kenneth Marthell
is the pastor. Following prayer, the confidential
ministry of helps for anyone with letters, papers
or forms which need explanation or completion
will be offered. The service is open to the public.

HEAD START — Head Start is in the process of recruiting;
children ages 3 and 4 years old by school entry
date — Oct. 16. Head Start is a federally funded
program designed to help break the cycle of
poverty by providing preschool children of low-
income families with a comprehensive program
to meet the children’s needs. Applications are
being accepted daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the
Duffie Head Start ^nter. The center is located at
3500 S. Old Wire Road in Red Springs. The

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS — Pastor and Mrs.
Ducommon will be conducting blood pressure
checks twice a month at the Raeford Evangelical
Methodist Church on Green Street.
4-H HORSE CLUB — Hoke County 4-H plans to organize
a horse club. The club will be meeting in the
Rockfish area and is open to all boys and girls
between the ages of 5 and 19. You do not have to
own your own horse. If you are interested, please

meeting dale, place and time. Program opportuni

4-H CLUB — A new 4-H Club is being organized in the
Ashley Heights-Five Points area of Hoke County.
The club is open to any youth between the ages
of 12 and 16 with an interest in recreation and
inaeasing self-esteem through motivational
activities and exercises. 4-H is the youth
development organization of the N.C. Coopera
tive Extension Service. Program opportunities
are offered to all people regardless of race, color,
national origin, sex, age or handicap. If you

ROCKFISH KNIGHTRIDERS —The Rockfish
Knightriders Wagon and Horseback Riders club
