State Treasurer Harlan E. Boyles
announced his department is once
again searching for owners of un-
claimedor forgotten properly that was
remitted to the state.
“During the pa.st fiscal year, we
deposited over $20.7 million in cash
and received over $2.5 million in .se
curities that had been forgotten or
unclaimed, most of which belongs to
citizens of North Carolina,” Boyles
said. “We are eager to refund this
money to the rightful owners.”
Much of this money comes from
uncashed checks, unclaimed rent and
utility deposits, forgotten bank ac
counts, insurance prixreeds and even
unused gift certificates.
State law requires this unclaimed
properly which is held by financial
institutions, public utilities, govern
mental agencies, busines.ses and cor
porations and insurance companies,
