New shelter opens in connty By Kristin Guthrie Staff writer Unwanted dogs and cats roam the streets of Hoke County, uncared for and unloved — stretching the resources of Hoke's animal shelter. Some of those animals un wanted litters, dogs and cats driven from their homes—may have found a place that will offer them lose, food and a little discipline. The couple said their mission is two-fold — to help abandoned and abused animals and to provide "pet therapy" for citizens of the county The shelter is not officially o[H:n to the public yet, because the proj’ erty has to be re zoned and granted a conditional use permit by lloki County's Planning Hiard .ind Board of Commissioners. The Spears are dedicated to im proving relationships between fami lies and their companion animals by using a holistic approach to tr.nning and health care.
