She is the daughter of Cassandra Kempand the granddaughterof James Peterkin and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Kemp of Raeford. She has one brother, Terry L. Peterkin 11. On May 11, 1996 Peterkin com peted and won the opportunity to go to the Apollo Theater in Harlem. On September 4 she and her family trav eled to New York.
