January 22, 1997 THE NEWS-JOURNAL Raeford, N.C 3B Social Events P- ay ce Batten, Walters exchange vows Venetia Fulk Walters of Pinehurst and George Donald Batten of Sanford were united in marriage on Saturday January 18 in a 6 p.m. ceremony at Page Memorial United Methodist Church in Aberdeen. The Rev. Julian Scott officiated at the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of the late Glenn and Viola Fulk of Raeford. She is employed with Lowe’s in Southern Pines The groom is the son of George and Thelma Batten of Sanford. He is employed with Lowe’s in North Wilkesboro. A program of wedding music was provided by Paulette Kapp, pianist; with Lorraine Beaver, Eileen Strickland, Rochelle Walters and Denise Green, daughters of the bride, as soloists. Justin Jordan and Jarod Walters, Jenna and Travis Walters, Amber Thompson and Nathan Bea ver, grandchildren of the bride, also sang “The Bond of Love.” The bride,escorted by her brother, Roland Fulkof Raeford, chose agown of champagne satin lace with a fitted bodice, enhanced with pearls and a full length train, also adorned with lace and pearls. The bride’s floral headpiece was also accented with pearls. She carried a bouquet of white carnations. Queen Anne’s lace,baby’s breath, centered with cranberry col ored freesia and roses attached with green ivy and streamers of white satin ribbons and pearls. George Batten of Sanford, father of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Donald Batten Jr. of Bear Creek and Jonathan Batten of Sanford, sons of the groom. Connie Ellis of Raeford, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a tea-length gown of rayon georgette. The gown was of cranberry red color and the A-line dress fea tured an empire waistline with bolero jacket. She carried a bouquet of white Queen Anne’s lace, baby’s breath, greenery with attached streamers of cranberry and white satin ribbon. Bridesmaids were Jennie Fulk of Fayetteville, sister-in-law of bride and Betty Troutman of Addor. Their gowns were similar to that of the matron of honor. A rehearsal pizza party was held at the home of the bride’s son, Alan Walters of Southern Pines. Hosts were Alan and Tammy Walters and Don and Lorraine Beaver of Wilmington. A reception was held in the church fellowship hall. After a honeymoon trip to Las Vegas the couple will live in Pinehurst. Raymond and Connie Ellis held a honeymoon party for bridal couple, Venetia Fulk Walters and George Donald Batten in their home on Satur day Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. Co-hosts were Jennie Fulk and Betty Troutman. Luke showed a video of scenes he had made when Hurricane Fran came through Hoke County — it was awesome and made the group realize how fortunate they were that lives were not lost and more structural damage was not done—thanks, Luke and Phylis. The following delegates were elected to attend the state convention on April 25,26 and 27,. which will be held in Raleigh: Louise Taylor, Bobby Cox, Mary Ruth Haire, Ruth Wilkerson, Ruth Phillips and Bobby Currie. Alternates elected to attend: were Ola Rae Tucker, Bill Myers, Kathleen McBryde, Fleeta Maxwell, Louise Taylor and Bertha Hendrix. Jack Knowles encouraged the lodge to get youth members more involved in Woodmen of the World. Evelyn Myers and Mary Ruth Haire presented a flag to the Rescue Squad.
