Engagement
Heeks-Gleason plan to be wed
Robert Heeks and Marla Gleason, both of Hoke County, announce
their recent engagement. The bride-to-be is employed with Hoke
County Schools. The prospective bridegroom is retired military, owns
a remodeling business, and is employed with Hoke Correctional
Institution. The couple recently started an engraving business called
V.I.P. Awards. Wedding plans will be announced in the near future.

Souder-Scardina
engagement announced
Carl and Nancy Souder of North Rome, Pennsylvania, formerly of
Raeford, announce the engagement of their daughter, Michelle A.
Souder, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Raeford, to Andrew
Scardina, also of San Antonio. The prospective bridegroom is the son
of Andia and Gina Scardina of San Antonio. Both Miss Souder and Mr.
Scardina are currently serving in the U.S. Army Reserves as dietary
technicians. Wedding plans have not yet been finalized.

Red Springs were united in marriage
on February 23, 2002 in an 11 a.m.
ceremony officiated by the Reverend
Dr. Clarence Ammons in Antioch
Presbyterian Church.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Billy Wayne Evansof Shan
non. She is a graduate of Lumberlon
Senior High School and Peace Col
lege.She isemployedwith FirslHealth
of the Carolinas.
The groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Clifton (\irrie of Red
Springs. He is a graduate of Red
Springs High School and is employed
with Citizen Printing Company.

Harris Jr.
The bride, escorted by her father
and her son, Thomas McKenzie
Evans, wore a long gown of Dulciana
satin and Italian silky satin with semi-
cathedral train of Ivory and trimmed
in rum pink.
Her veil of rum pink was attached
to a tiara and she carried a hand-tied
bouquet of roses in Ivory champagne
and blush.
Maid of honor was Paula Waynell
Evans, of Raleigh, sister of the bride.
She wore a long gown of chocolate
Georgette styled with a sleeveless top
with bateau neckline and an A-line
skirl. She carried a hand-tied bouquet
of red roses, burgundy gerbers, bur
gundy cosmos and green hypericum
berries.
Bridesmaids were Margaret Eliza
beth Chamblee and Catherine Eliza
beth Muse,bolhof Raleigh,and Mollie
McKenzie Johnson of Shannon.
Junior bridesmaid was Meridelh
Nicole Marlin of Red Springs. They
wore gowns like the maid of honor
and carried hand-tied red roses, bur
gundy gerbers, burgundy cosmos and
green hvpericum berries.
Mrs. James Neill Ma.xwell directed
the wedding.
Greeters were Steven Garrett
Johnson and Wi 11 iani Samuel Johnson.

with ivory vest. 'I'he best man and
ushers wore black tuxedos with cop
per vests.
4-H thanks volunteers

Sandra R. Kelly is leaving Hoke
County after spending 17 and one-
half years as 4-11 agent with the N.C.
Cooperative Extension Service. She
is moving to Bladen County where
she will work with Family Consumer
Science — formerly known as Home
Economics.
“I’m excited but it is tearing my
heart out,’’ Kelly said at a 4-H volun
teer banquet held at Edinborough
Restaurant last week.

McRae said “Hoke County 4-H was a
model” w hen he worked in other coun
ties before coming to Hoke last year.
Kelly was called “a blessing” to
Hoke County.
La.st week's banquet was a thank you
to volunteers and other supporters of 4-11
activities. Volunteers were thanked for
doing everything from being camper
moms to chaperoning youngsters.
“Volunteers are the backbone of
the 4-H program,” said 4-H Ambas
sador Joshua Bowers.
Kelly particularly thanked the Rae-

'I'he rehearsal dinner was held at
Little Whtile in Raeford given by the
parents of the groom.
The wedding reception was held in
Flora Macdonald Academy in Red
Springs given by the parents of the
bride.
After a wedding trip to Asheville,
the couple will live in Red
Springs.

The Woman's Club sponsors stu
dents at 4-11 summer camps. The
youngsters ttre deserving and are
model campers, Kelly said.
4-11 is the youth development or
ganization of the Extension Service
and is open to boys and girls between
the ages of five and 19. Community
clubs are located throughout Moke
and meet once a month at various
locations and times.
