X I! } Former Buck receives Silver Last year at the State Track Meet Coaches George McNeill and Faye Peterkin took several girls including Chekimbrell Jefferson and Shakella Daniel. Daniel was the only representative for Hoke on this year, and Jefferson placed second in the high hurdles now representing Scotland High. The ex- Buck placed fourth last year as a fresh man. Although she was joined in the state with teammate Alexis Martin, she shared a lot of time with ex teammate Daniel because Martin was in the field events. Jefferson cheered for Daniel as she received an Athletics Fund award. After Jefferson received her medal Daniel congratulated her and said, “Girl, you got two more years to get the gold.” "Tm living in Scotland County but I still have my many friends, big brother Claymonte, Aunt Shirley, Chekimbrell Jefferson cousins and my roots are still in Hoke County and Raeford,” Jefferson said. Both male and female cyclists will compete Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2, in races beginning at the Caro lina Horse Park at Five Points. Cyclists ages 15-65 will race in categories of 10 to 111 miles. The course will begin at the horse park, go down Montrose and McFarland Blue roads, intersect with Army/Ashemont roads and continue down Calloway Road to return to the horse park. Races will begin at 9 a.m. on both days. Jacobs Beulah Brewington Jacobs, Haire Road, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002. Visitation is Thursday, May 30 at 7-9 p.m. Her funeral will be held Friday. Mrs. Jacobs was preceded in death by her husband, Cesary Jacobs, and a son, James “Noodie” Jacobs. Among her other survivors are five sons, Roman Jacobs, James R.
