May 5, 2010 THE NEWS-JOURNAL Raeford, N.C 3A Obituaries Gwendolyn Floyd Gwendolyn Floyd, 56, of 107 Dalmation Drive, died Monday, April 26,2010. The funeral was held Saturday, May 1 at 6 p.m. in Buie Funeral Flome Chapel. Survivors are her son, Robert Foy; daughters, Divida Ward, Shamakima Foy and Crystal Ward; her mother, Ara; brothers, Gregory, Victor and Colie; sisters, Shila, Shirley, Nikaya, and Armay; and five grandchildren. Harvey S. McGregor Harvey Shelton McGregor, 5 8, of 291 Bellmont Drive, died Tuesday, April 27,2010. The funeral was held Saturday, May 1 at 1 p.m. in Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Red Springs. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors are his wife, Peggy; sons, Ricky Bratcher and Reginald McNair; brothers, Vemell, James, and Robert; sisters, Thedoria Sand ers, Mables McLean, and Tenia; 14 grandchildren; and a great grandchild. Hugh Sample HughDeAimond Sample, 74, of Newton, North Carolina, died April 30, 2010 in his home. He was bom in Charlotte to the late Robert and Elizabeth Crosby Sample. He is married to Carol McPhaul Sample, formerly of Raeford. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8 at 3 p.m. at First Cartoonist starts ‘Screech’ strip Enrique Toro is a 15-year-old budding cartoonist who plans to one day make it a career. When his Hoke High School art teacher, Jason Pierce, and As sistant Principal Heriberto Corral got word to us that there was talent about, we asked to see his work, and a cartoon strip was bom. Over the next six months (at least), En rique will be taking us on the adventures of Screech, The News-Journal’s mascot. (What, you’ve never heard of a newspa per with a mascot?) We’re giving Enrique the week-by- week storyline, and he’s going to get us a EnriqueToro is in the center of this self-caricature, surrounded by his friends. Pulitzer Prize.
