Survivors include a daughter, Jordan; mother, Eileen Donovan; and brothers, Wayne and Michael. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 1 in Reeves Funeral Home chapel in Hope Mills. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Cruz Samaniego Cruz Samaniego of Raeford died Friday, June 26, 2015 in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital at the age of 87. She was born in Puerto Rico on May 3, 1928 to the late Ber- nado Olmedo and Cruz Acer Olmedo. She was preceded in death by her husband. Nelson Samaniego; her sisters, Rosa Fydia Bigsby and Monserrate Molinary; and her brother, Domingo Olmedo. She leaves behind her son, Simon Colon (Elsie) of Raeford; her daughter. Carmen Sosa of Eos Angeles, California; her sister, Adamina Gutierrez of Puerto Rico; and her granddaughter, Anna Colon. Visitation will be held from Cruz Samaniego 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday, July 1 at Grumpier Funeral Home Chapel in Raeford. Starting The first N.C. Poultry Festival will be “Hatchin’ Up Some Fun” (this year’s theme) September 11-19. The Board of Directors has been hard at work since January planning an exciting and fun-filled festival. It will all begin with the Turkey Bowl held at Raz Autry Stadium and will continue with events daily until September 19. Events planned for the week include Ten nis Tournament, Turkey Throw Down, 5K Pajama Run, Senior Day and, of course, the “BIG” day in the park with vendors, entertainment, contests, etc. Shirts and other memorabilia will be on sale at the Festival Store after July 4, as we are cur rently trying to get them all on the shelves and the store is a “hatched up” mess. Exhibitor call Arts and crafts, educational, informational and commercial vendors should reserve booth space now for display of their busi ness or organization during the big day, Saturday, September 19. Sporting fun The festival is trying to offer different events in which every one of all ages will be able to participate. • Hoke County Parks and Recreation and the festival are partnering to bring a co-ed soft- ball tournament August 21-23. The tournament will be played at the 211 Sports Complex with a $125 entry fee due on August 12 and a mandatory team meeting (one representative from team) on Monday, August 17. The Head-on crash The driver of this Jeep was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition lastThursday after crash ing head-on with a florist truck, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.The truck allegedly crossed the center line on Highway 21 I near the Hoke-Moore County around I p.m. The truck driver was not injured and the driver of the Jeep is recovering, authorities said.The names of the drivers were not available by News-Journal deadline. Justice was listed as a suspect on a Raeford Police Department report, but he was not charged with any crime. Two other teenagers listed as suspects were charged in the case as previously reported.
