Manager Palmer Jerman has re turned from New York and says he has booked so many companies for next season at the academy of music that there will be two perf ordnances a week. He has secured many attractions and Raleigh's theatre-goers really have something to look forward to. MUST BARE HIS BREAST. Governor Waite Shrieks of the Coming Revolution. Pueblo, Col., May 23. Adjutant general Tarnney says that unless something is done by the national government foi the relief of the peo ple, the blood spilled when Coxey's men were clubbed at Washington will be the first blood spilt in a new revo lution. Governor Waite opened the cam paign today in the southern part of the state. He spoke to an immense crowd, advocated . the coinage of the Mexican dollar to be used as legal ten der in the state of Colorado, and said he hoped the ballot wouid soon over- Mi.aiu V i tia itti Wall "But," said he, "If the ballot is not suecessfnl, the man who will not bare his breast to the bullet is not a man." A Legislature Locked Up. Pkovide.nce, R. 1., May 22. One of the most remarkable sessions of the house of representatives ever held took place today. At 11 o'clock all members present were locked in and writs were issued for absent mem bers and placed in the hands of the sheriffs, but it was 3.15 before a quo rum arrived. Other members are now being- arrested in all parts of the State. As soon as there was a quorum pres ent Wheaton Cole was expelled from his seat in the house and Claude J. Farnsworth was eubstituted as the sec ond representative from Pawtucket. At 4:15 Farnsworth was sworn in. Only four republicans were present during the session. The rest have disappeared from the city to avoid ar rest. Clemson College Burned. Charleston, S. C, May 22. The main building of the Clemson college, at Fort Mill, caught fire at daylight this morning. The main building will be a total loss.? The dormitory, chapel and mechanical - building were all saved. The college is so called from Thomas G. Clemson, son-in-law of John Jp. .Calhoun, who donated the ground for its site, and stands within a stone's throw of Calhoun's old home. It is the state agricultural and me chanical college, and was established in 1803, as the result of a long agita tion by the farmers of the state an agitation which was . begun by ' Ben Tillman, and which landed him in the governor's chair before the institution wlicti he beganVtibj public "career by championing was opened. MiMoTBAlres' Loan Office. A New Yorkf telegram says that Mr. Cornlius Vanderbilt and thirty other New York millionaires will open their loan office at Fourth avenue and Twenty second street tomorrow morn ing. The organization, which will be known as the Provident loan society, was authorized by the last legislature, and originated with Rev. David H. Geer, rector of St. Bartholomew's church, early in January. The so ciety was formed with the special ob ject of assisting the poor, and money will be lent on personal property for the full value of the goods pledged, at the rate of one per cent, interest per month. The Weather Report.. For North Carolina: Partly cloudy. Probably showers on the coast today. Local forecast: On Thursday, occa sional showers, continued cool. Lo cal data for 24 hours ending 8 a. m. today: Maximum temperature, 77; Minimum temperature, 58; rainfall, 0.13. The pressure is low everywhere east of the Mississippi and in the south west.' While there is no distinct storm center the conditions have been such as to produce local showers. An area of high pressure is central over the , northwest. There have not been any decided changes in temperature. It is slightly warmer in the lower southern states, but con tinues cool elsewhere, especially in the central valley. Mr; W. T. Macon, formerly of Raleigh. The marriage was at an hour's notice and Mr. and Mrs. Buck ingham returned to Fayetteville last evening. A Pine Excursion. The Sunday school excursion of Cen tral M. K. church left on a special train at 7:45 this morning. About 500 went on the trip.' ' The day was cer tainly fine for the excursionists.
