(JooJ advertising consists in the se lection of a few strong, quick sell spe cialties, to stand as the representatives of your stock in price, pattern and quality. No tradesman need lack for a specialty. Let specialties sell stapls always and try to take rank among your competitors as one wbo is the quickest to recognize a good thing and thjrlirst to sell it. Invite patrons to come and see you. The great advertisers of the country never cease reminding the people of their names, location and nature of business. Advertising is an invest ment and newspaper advertising col umns are a boon to man. They help him out of his troubles and into the smiles of prosperity. The Pennsylva nia railroad advertises exclusively in the newspapers. There is not a great business that has baen built in the past twenty years without the aid of newspapers. This at is too bustling and com petition is too great for the merchant to allow himself any longer the luxury of waiting supinely behind his coun ter for trade. He must show in ad vance of the purchase just what In has to sell and how he intends to sell it, and a persistent publication of his wares is the means by which such showing can be made. Frank Siddall, the Philadelphia snap man, says: "I have confined my advertising entirely to newspapers. The man who does not read a news paper does not use soap." The Masons celebrated iSt. John's day at Oxford today at the meeting of the grand lodge. The doctors of Paris, Ark., are busy night and day. A disease is raging with terrible fury about six or eight mil is west of the town, and from its severity doctors are inclined to call it cholera. One physician at Paris re ports fifty-seven cases. Several deaths hive already occurred. Ths question is asked what is the relation between extreme hot weather and the suicidal mania? In New York Monday was the hottest and most op pressive 18th of June ever known there, and the Tribune says a wave of suicide swept over the city. It gave a list of fifteen or twenty suicides. Denial has been made of the re liability of the statement of the Wash ington Post about an anarchist plot to blow up various public buildings in Washington, but that paper a very reliable one persists that its story is "a fabric of facts," and ridi cules the authorities for their present denials. It is believed in Hong Kong that the pestilence raging there is the same disease that ravaged the whole world about the middle of the fourteenth century under the name of the "Black Death," and whiih, under the name of the "Plague," scourged Europe so fearfully again in the year 1665. It was the most fearful scourge to which humanity has ever been subjected. It is possible that the senate sugar trust investigating committee will have no more witnesses before it, and that the final report of the committee will be made next week. The report, how ever, -will be withheld for the present, . in order that the committee may be in position to examine other witnesses in case any should be suggested. The committee has had before it all the persons whose names have been sug gested, including the authors of the newspaper charges, all the United States senators not absent from the city, secretary Carlisle, the principal officers of the sugar trust and others lnfaMaldfl in faftnajl unrra d Kwsilr J ers through whom it was charged that senators had speculated in sugar stock during the .pendency of the present tariff bill, two members of the house of representatives' whose names have been1 mentioned in connection with sugar legislation and speculation, and the man who : was reported, to have heard the conversation at the Arling- ., ton hotel between senators and mem bers of the trust. To the northern investor the Held of profitable investment ha been greatly narrowed daring the past year, the east or went no longer afford ing the profit or security of former years. The south is now, fur this rea son, being naturally turned to as the natural field for the investment of northern capital, the lack of informa tion being about the only obstacle in the way. To furnish this is one of the objects for which the convention of business mon was held in New York city yesterday. Every city of any consequeuee in the south was repre sented and much good will result. It is reported that a gigantic con solidation of -railroad interests in the south is contemplated. The new com pany, it is stated, will comprise the Richmond and Danville, East Tennes see, Virginia and Georgia, and Cincin nati Southern systems. The Central of Georgia is already practically un der the control of the newly organized Richmond and Danville system and the Georgia and Atlanta and West Point road, while seemingly under an inde pendent management, are really con trolled through the Georgia Central and Louisville and Nashville road. This will leave but three roads of the ten entering Atlanta outside of the Southern railway coinpanj'. The time fixed for the consolidation is shortly befure October 1. A DEFICIT OF $78,000,000 Government Expenditures Have Exceeded Its Receipts by This Amount. The report of receipts and expendi tures of the government will be made shortly. Sq far this month customs receipts have been $5,500,000, indi eating a total for the month from this source of j 9,000,(XX); internal revenue receipts, $8,000,000, indicating a total of $12,000,000; miscellaneous receipts, $2,000,000, indicating a total of $3, 000,000, and making the aggregate government receipts fur the fiscal year $294,900,000. The expendi tures so far this month have been $9,500,000, making the aggregate for the year to June (30,the next ten days are estimated,) $372,000,000, or an ex cess for the fisical year of $78,000; 000. Secretary Carlisle last fall, in an official statement made to congress. I stated that the deficit for this year would be $28,000,000, but the unex pected and unprecedented decliue in customs and interi al revenue caused him subsequently to revise his esti mate of the deficit. BREAD RIOT IN BUFFALO- Poles Demand Work or Food of Public Officials. Late Wednesday afternoon over 1,000 Poles marched to Niagara square, Buffalo, where they divided into two sections, one going to the mayor's of fice, the other to the poor office. At each place they demanded bread or work at once. "Give us bread or give us work; our children are starving," they cried in Polish. An alleged an archist attempted to make a speech, but was quickly stopped by the police. It was not until the police charged the mob that it slowly dispersed. Threats of violence were heard . on all sides. The men say they will return to their native country if transportation shall be furnished them. Nee the World's Fair for 15c. I was attended by the most eminent physicians in the lind. I visited the great Saratoga Springs, X. Y., and the noted Hot Springs of Arkansas, and many other watering places, and al ways consulted with the local physi cian for directions; finally came to Florida ten years ago. About two years ago I had a severe attack of rheumatism, was confined to my room for twelve weeks and during the time 1 was induced to try P. P. P., (Prickly Ash, Poke Root and Potas sium), knowing that each ingredient was good for impurities of tne blood; after using two small bottles I was re lieved; at four different times since I have had slight attacks and I have each time taken two small bottles of P. P. P., and been relieved, and I consider it the best medicine of its kind. Respectfully, J. F. Greek. RHEUMATISM is emphatically a blood disorder caused by inability of the kidney to throw off certain poisons which accumulate in the tissues about the joints and mus cles. P. P. P., very simply, quickly and surely cures this disease, neutralizing impurities in the blood. Experience and science "both endorse P. P. P as the only infallible blood purifier known.
