It also states that 1,600,000 acres of land denuded of timber were sold for taxes last year, the owners considering them valueless. The movement of cotton since the crop year began, ou September 1, 1S94, has been the largest on record. In the previous maximum crop season of 1891-02 the total production of the staple as determined by the tiu.il count of marketed bales was 9,035,379 bales. Already in seven months of the present (season there have come into sight a total of 9,043,073 bales about 10.000 more than the whole yield of 1S91-2. In the latter years the movement for the corresponding period aggregated about S,3.")2.000 bales; so that the increase in the mar keting during the last year has been a little over S per cent.
