The Bagley building la being re painted.. Visitors to tbe city greatly admire the decorated buildings. Hash plowing ap and replanting of cotton Is in progress. Not a few farmers are just begin ning to plant cotton. The Maronio building was decorated today. The outlook for frost tomorrow is not very sheering. Mr. Lee S. Overman, whose sickness at Salisbury has been referred to, is much better. The Petersburg Grays cannot come here Monday. Yesterday they went on duty at the Pocahontas coal mines. A oommittee is canvassing the city securing contributions of supplies for feeding the veterans next Monday. There will be two special trains here next Monday from Richmond, Va.; one over the S. A. L. and the other over the Southern. State treasurer Worth left toda v for Kinston to appear in his case against the directors of the defunct bank of New Hanover at Wilmington. The church improvement society will meet in the Sunday school room of the First Baptist church tomorrow at 5 o'clock. A full attendance is desired. Gov. Carr issued commissions today to H. R. Cowles of Statesville and J biggs of Oxford, as adjutants of the fourth and third regiments of the state guard. Rev. William B. McCall, colored, was arrested today and taken to jail on a charge brought against him by a negro woman. She was also arrested and jailed. Next Sunday, at Christchurch, Rev. George N. Gilreath, deacon in charge I of the chapel of St. Savior, will be or dained to the priesthood by bishop Cheshire. The Farina flouring mill is now urning out flour and its product will soon be on sale. No doubt the local sales will be very large, as they ought to be. Messrs. Alfred Williams, Jr., and Edgar Haywood are as busy as bees getting their new bookstore in shape for the opening next Saturday. Boggs, who is visit ing southern cities with the object of securing delegations to attend the sound money convention to be held at Memphis, May SSrd, arrived today and speaks at the mayor's office this evening. He spoke at Charlotte last evening. He says he has been every where cordially received, and expects a large delegation from the south at this much talked of convention. The grand confederate concert for the benefit of the monument fund to be given at the academy of mosio next Monday evening, is looked forward to as a very brilliant mosloal event. A special train will take the cadets there Saturday. Fred. Miller, the long distance walker, and his dog "Guess" were at G reensboro today. The South Carolinian named Mc i lymph charged with fraud is yet in the station. His friends have never orned ap. He said he was afraid his people in S. C. would read of his arrest. At times he behaves quite strangely. Tomorrow at Morganton the Episco pal convention of this diooese meets at Morganton. A number of delegates from this city are in attendance. Revs. .VI. The german to be given by th Capital club on the evening of May 20, complimentary to the visitors in this city at that time promises to be one of the most brilliant social events that has ever transpired in this city. Yesterday evening a tolerably well dressed middle-aired white woman stole some oranges from a grocery store and then went to Dughi's and was there seen to steal another orange She was followed on Fayetteville street and upon being told of her theft at first pretended to be indignant and Innocent, bat a moment later gave ap some of the trait. She returned to Dnghl's and qaite a number of per sons who had gathered witnessed her actions with interest. When any one spoke loudly to her about her theft she begged them not to do so.
