Two Sales of Property.

erage of 70 degrees; the coldest that
of 1889, with an average of 73 de
grees. The highest temperature da
ring any August was 90 degrees, on

grees, on the 24, in 1890. Tbe average
rainfall for the month 7 38 inches; the
average number of day with .01 of an
inch or more IS. The greatest month
ly precipitation was 10.80 Inches, in
1887; the least 4 05 inches, in 1838
The greatest amount in any 34 conse
cutive hours was 4 16 in. on the 37th in
1887. Highest velocity of the wind du

there must be the hearty co-operation

posed to secure, if possible, a small
exhibit, or the eihibit of some small
rticle, from every manufacturing es
tablishment in tbe state. These ar-
idea will all be properly labeled and
arranged ia a division in the main
building to be known as an "ludex to
North Carolina Industries." It matter-
not how small tbe article; 1 1 will
receive the same attention. Of course
aome exhibitors may wish to have a

for all.
Bonanza Excursion to Norfolk
On the 14th of August the annual
excursion under the management of
Cbavasse & Macy will be run from

The Greensboro Record speaking of
the extension of the lease of the N. C.
railway says tha Southern wants to
know if it can renew the leiseuot at
once, perhaps, bat at the expiratio
of six years, and wants some kind
an obligation to that effect made soon
with approximate figures. It is evi
dent there is to be a fight, as far as at
once' going into a renewal of th
lease is concerned. Home valid rea

The Tobacco Market Ought to
be Developed
Dr. J. S. Meadows, formerly of
Lonisburg, has leased the Capital
tobacco warehouse on South Blood-
worth street and will operate it. Dr
Meadows is well known as a ware
houseman. - Raleigh s business men
ought to work together to develop
the tobacco market bere. At one
time a good trade in leaf was built
up, bat it fell away very quickly. No
reports of total sales during the sea
son were ever made, aud but little was
done to increase the business, save by
a few men. most of whom became dis
couraged and went oat of the trade or
removed to other markets.

Farmers' Institutes Will be
Held
Chairman W. F. Green, of the state

A warrant for $500 for this purpose
has gotten as far a tne state treas
urer's office and there it stops. Tbe
treasurer says he does not know
whether he can pay it or not. Col
Green was asked what wonld be done
and replied that the institutes would
b held, no matter whether these
funds were obtained or not It is the
decision of judge Seymour in the fed
eral court which causes the trouble.
