The man who owns valuable real es tate in Raleigh ant! -doesn't improve it demonstrates a species of "old fogjjy ism" that we are not anxkuis to tol erate. Who will he the next Congressman from the metropolitan district is now the question. What's the matter with Wake county? One ot the most important, if not tha most important, office in North Caro lina, is the position of Superintendent ot Public Instruction. We trust and be lieve that Oen. Toon will come to this grave post of duty with all the liberality nntl patriotism which this high otfiee demands. The people of the State have imposed upon him a grave responsibility. The papers in other States are rejoie ins with North Carolina over the set tlement of the rare issue in politics and the dawn of a day when men shall ho swayed ty reason and not passion and prejudice. Oeorgia and Virginia, it is t ha tight, will follow ous example of emancipation of suffrage. -The Portsmouth Star says: "The result of the election in North Carolina guarantees to the people ot man, it restores political freedom. He that State two good things. To the white can now look -at and vote upon national. Stale and municipal issues entirely apart from the "nigger question." He need not now vote to put an unfit man in a position of trust and responsibility, sim ly because that man stands for white Yuprcmacy. He need not now vote for 11 political heresy er an economical ab surdity, solely and wholly because the party standing for political saneness and -economical common . sense, also stands for the rule of tho white man by the negro. For thirty odd years the white man cf North Carolina has never really v-ted cn a question of national import. He has voted against the negro. Last Thursday's election has changed all this. . "To the negro of North Carolina, the result of this election is of inestimable value. By it the light to vote has been taken from him a deprivation much like ; that of withholding poison from an in fant. With no vote, the negro will be dropped by those conscienceless whites who, for selfish end, deceived and de bauched him. A second and better emancipation is this. Under it. the ne gro can, in peace, work out his salva tion. ' North Carolina did a good day's wark tar herself last Thursday. Her men, and her women, too. arose in their might. With one blew they freed themselves, ni.d forever, let us hope, made It clear to nil the world that in a white man's coun try the white man rule3." Another lot of one quart frezers just received. W.
