Mr. Meyer’s cat had just lost two kittens, so on seeing the squirrels, she adopted them and raised them up until now they can run about. They are kept in a wire cage. Mr. Simeon Williams, of Coop er township in Nash county, has a cow that he prizes very highly, as it gives a quantity of good milk. Mr. Williams did not neg lect making a barrel of scupper- nong wine in the fall, when his grapes were ripe and juicy. He placed the wine barrel in his smoke house, which has an earth en floor. His chickens had the right of way into the smoke house and sci’atched holes in the ground. The cow followed their example and went into the smoke house, overturning the wine barrel. Soon several holes were filled wit'h the sparkling liquid. The .cow drank the wine and for tv,’o days, was as a lord. She went about bellowing and paw ing up flirt and chased everything in sight. Since sobering up, her milk has the delicious flavor of the scuppernong wine.-The State Journal. Mortgage Sale of Land in Gherryville.
