CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank our friends and neighbors for their many deeds of kindness and words of sympathy during the illness and death of our dear husband and father. We are also grateful for the many floral offerings. MRS. S. W. DELLINGER MR AND MRS. FOREST' E. DAVIS. Merchants Not Taking Discount It is apparent from the sales taxe returns filed for the month of July, August and September of this year that a number of merchants are not availing them selves of the discount allowed by the Legislature of 1943. The Department is extremely anxious that all merchants claim the discount at the time provided by law for the making of such claim. Under the law, if v.he dis count is not claimed at the time of making return, it it lott and the Department does not then haVe the right to allow it. Below we quote from the 1943 Act allowing the 3‘< dis count: ‘•Every taxpayer who pays the tax imposed by this article and Article IX, Schedule I, shall be entitled to deduct from the am ount of the tax for which he is liable and which he actually pays a discount of three per cent 3'< Provided, however, the Commis sioner may deny a taxpayer the bnenfits of this subsection for a failure to pay the full tax when due, as well as in cases of fraud, evasion. and failure to keep ac curate and clear records as provi ded in Section 408 of the Reve nue Act of 1939, as amended 'through 1941. Provided, further, that in order to secure the bene fitl of this subjection, .the tax njpjrer must deduct the 3°fr\ dis count, at the time of making his rttonfhly remittance of tax to the beb^fineht 6f Revenue.” !j**'It is hoped that in this and ■'ffiisnijfrr months all merchants jvjl^avail themselv'es of the three ’WtffBfent deduction by claiming thf fame at the time of making iKey monthly return.__ r-ir»ftjr and Mrs. Lewis Barrett moved to their new home on •GRfcrry street. m TABLETS. SALVE. NOSE DROPS “HE WAS THE SUNSHINE OF OUR HOME >* (In Memory of J. C. Carpenter 9 Years Old) The Lord was out gathering flowers one morn. And he came to a bud so red, He said, “I must pick it and take it away; For the wind will bruise it if 1 leave it there.” A precious one from us is none A voice we loved is stilled, A place is vacant in our home That neVer can be tilled. God in His wisdom has recalled The bloom his love has given And though his body moulders His soul is safe in Heaven. Our home is lonely now without We miss him at our family prayer We kneel and almost feel his presence. Out rise and find a Vacant chair O how sweet it. will be in that beautiful home. So free from ail sorrow and pain With song on our lips and harp in our hands; Where we will meet to part nev- j er again.
