TaJcefurnteabafttcday Locals Defeat Lenoir | 8-0; Play there Today Return Engagement Here Tomorrow At 5:00 O'Clock The Cherryville American Le gion Juniors bounced back into the win column yesterday after noon, defeating Lenoir by the score of 8-0 and thus took the first game of the scheduled three out-of-five series with the moun tain lads. Ray Green exhibited some masterful pitching and kept the visitors hitless until he was relieved in the sikth frame by Rey nolds who allowed Lenoir only two hits. Green also had a fine day at the bat, getting two for four with his first appearance good for a home run. The Cher ries had scoring sprees in the first and second innings gaining three runs in each stanza and also scor ing one in the fourth. Eight hits were obtained from the offerings of Miller who was somewhat er ratic in the first of the game but who settled down and did some fair pitching the last five innings. Cherryville will journey *o le tter today for a game at the local park sta’.ing at fi:30 P. M„ and will be host to the Lenoir crowd here tomorrow at 5 o’clock for the third game of the series. All tue games between these two teams must be completed this week, so if rain prevents tile le maiiung contests from being play ed, the team with the nu t wins will be i-eiected to meet the win ner of tne Forest City-Shclby se The Charlotte lads defeated the Cherries in the Queen City last Thursday night and thus gained a tie with the locals. By defeat ing the Gastonia County team on Saturday night, Charlotte was still tied writh the Cherries and a coin was flipped to determine the top team and the one which would gain the bye this week. Cherry ville lost in the toss up and was matched with Lenoir, the bottom place team. At this writing, the Gastonia County team is leading the Gastonia City team with two wins and one defeat. Ken Deal, the City team’s ace pitcher, kept his team in the running by win ning last night’s contest 7-0 on a three hit-performance. The win ner of this series will meet Coach Joe Moody’s boys next wek. If the Cherries emerge victorious over the Lenoir aggregation, they will meet the winner of the For est City-Shelby contests and the winner of this will compete with the winner of the Charlotte-Gas tonia series to determine the win ner of the Western Conference. Cherryville fans are quite pep ped up over the team this year which has only suffered two de feats, one to Shelby and the game last Thursday to Charlotte. C oach Jack Kjser will probably send either Coon or Stamey to the mound today at Lenoir and possi bly will have Green doing the tossing here tomorrow.
