Knight stationed at Camp’ MacKall, spent three days leave here this week with his wife ano mother. Wayne Jenkins, S of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is spending a ten day furlough with his par ents, Mr. anl Mrs. L. I. Jenkins. Mr. J. W. McGinnis of Char lotte spent last week-end here with his brother, Mr. L. Webh Mc Ginnis and family. Misses Eioise and Hazeline Ross spent the week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Ross. Miss Hazelene Ross has com pleted her training for a long dis tance telephone operator in Char lotte. Howard Harrelson will leave Monday for State College, Ral eigh, to enter school. Little Bobby Barrett is much improved after being confined to his home with rheumatic fever. Kenneth Stroup left Wednes day for Raleigh, where he will en ter State College. Mrs. Norman Payne and chil dren, Dicky and Norman, Jr., of Bessemer City are spending the week here with her mother, Mrs. T. C. 'Summer. ' Sgt. Dayne Beam, stationed at Camp Butner is spending a ten day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Beam. S. M. Butler, jr., left Tuesday for Staunton, Va., where he will enter the Staunton Military Aca demy, Corporal and Mrs. Astor G. Griggs of Badin spent the week end here, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frea K. Houser. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Campbell and little daughter of Taylors ville, spent Sunday here, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Beam. Mr. p. T. Self has opened a Cafe in Cramerton. His friends here wish him much success in his new business. Mrs. Bertha Fourshee has re turned home from Crowell Hos pital, Lincolnton and is getting along nicely. Miss Rachel Heavner, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Heav ier, who graduated from the Cherryville High School in 1943 has entered Kings Business Col lege in Charlotte. Lt. (jg) and Mrs. James W. Schout announce the birth of a son, James William, Junior, Sep tember 11, Memorial Hospital, Charlotte. Mrs. Schout was Miss Josephine Rudisill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton S. Rudisill of Crouse. Miss Herberts Beam of Martins ville, Va., spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Beam. Miss Beam is manager of Rose’s 5, 10 and 25 Cent Store in Martinsville. Cpl. Johnnie H. Noles arrived Friday from Yuma, Arizona on a seven day furlough here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Noles. He is being transferred to Barkes dale Field, La. Pfc. Quentin Buff is spending a 16-day furlough with his mother Mrs. J. H. Buff in the North Brook section. Pfc. Buff has been overseas twenty months serving with the U. S. Army Medical Corps. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Carpenter. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stroup and Mrs. Lola Stroup spent Sunday afternoon in Clover, S. C., visit ing Mrs. George L. Riddle, and June, also Major Rildle’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Riddle. Sgt. Robert C. B. Brackett and Mrs. Albert Hallman as joint hostesses. The meeting was called to or der by the chairman, who led in j prayer, after which the hymn , “What a Friend We Have in Je sus” was sung. I The minutes of the last meel I ing were read and approved and the roll called. Mrs. Charlie Ford conducted the devotionals. She read 1st. Cor. 13th Chapter. This was foll owed by prayer. j For the program Mrs. Richard Carpenter read a very interest 1 ing article on “American In dians in a Post War World.” The j meeting closed with the Lord’s I prayer. MORRISON Mrs. R. J. Morrison was hostess to the Friday afternoon Book Club on September 8th at 4:00 o’clock. The home was decorated in lovely fall flowers. Mrs. W. F. Starnes presented the program of the afternoon in a most informa tive manner on “Enucators of North Carolina,” sketching the history of education in the state and giving the lives of outstand ing men who have contributed to the cause of elucation. Mrs. D.A. Rudisill read the interesting life of Marcia Davenport, acthor of “The Valley of Decision” and briefly reviewed the book. Mrs. Morrison presented Mrs. D. R. Mauney, Sr., whose birthday it was, an appropriate birthday gift. The hostess served a delicious salad course with little booklets in autumn colors as favors, entit lel “A Roguish Bit” containing a spicy poem. Club members present included: Mrs. S. M. Butler, J. B. Dellinger, F. M. Houser, D. R. Mauney, Sr., H. H. Allen, Victor Stroup, D. A. Rudisill, C. A. Ru disill, W. F. Starnes, and R. C. Sharpe.
