Em mett Brown will be glad to know she is at home and is improving Miss Sue Jenks returned home from Memorial Hospital in Char lotte Tuesday and is getting along nicely. Mrs. M. A. Stroup and Mrs. i Dewey F. Beam spent Monday; Lexington the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Costner. Mr. and Mrs. John Coley and ' Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Coley and children of Newton Bpent Sunday here, the guests of Mrs. A. B. George. Mrs. Robert R. Carpenter and Mrs. Howard W. Allran accom panied Miss Margaret Carpenter to Greensboro Monday where she entered Greensboro College. Parker George, who has been in the European area for two years arrived home Saturday for a 30 day furlough with his moth er, Mrs. A. B. George. Pvt. John Howard Davis, sta tioned at Fort Bliss, Texas, ar rived Wednesday night on a ten day furlough with his wife, chil dren and parents. Mr. and Mrs. 0. A. Davis have returned to their home in Jack sonville, Florida after a two weeks vacation here with Mr. and Mrs. Howard W. Allran and oth er relatives. Mrs. Ben Summer, and Mrs. Harry Lee Camp, Mr. and Mrs. Harrelson Yancey and Mrs. Pad Yancey of Gastonia spent the week-end at Camp Blending, Florida visiting, Pvt. Ben Sum mer, Pvt. Miss Margaret Carpenter left Sunday for Greensboro where she will be a freshman at Greens boro College. Miss Carolyn Beam has resign ed her position at ttie Post Office and entered Brevard College, she left Monday to enter school. Miss Nelta Gates has accepted a position at the Post Otfice filling the vacancy made by resignation of Miss Carolyn Beam who has entered Brevard College. Miss Billy Beam has gone to Norfolk, Va., where she will be a member of the Norfolk High School faculty. Miss Janie Sue Allen and Miss Mary Ann Beam left Sunday for Raleigh where they will enter Meredith College. Mrs. Robert Boggs and little daughter, Harriett Kendrick, will arrive Friday from Thomasville, Gu., for a ten days vacation here with her father, Mr. J. W. Ken drick and Mrs. Kendrick. Miss Mary Sue Peeler of Char lotte spent the week-end here with her mother, Mrs. V. C. Peel er. Miss Jerry Hobbs left Sunday for Mars Hill where she will en ter Mars Hill College. Harold Waters, S. C. 2-C left Monday after spending a thirty day furlough here with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Flovd Waters. He reported to Camp Parks, Cal ifornia. Miss Winona Summer left Sat urday for Chapel Hill where she will enter the University for the fall session. She was aceompa med by her mother, Mrs. L. L. Summer who visited her son, Lloyd Summer, Jr., a student at Duke University, Durham and re turned home Sunday. wwwwwwwwwww AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY TO MEET The American Legion Auxiliary will meet Tuesday night at 7:45 at the home of Mrs. Roy Houser. All members urged to be present. Musical Recital Friday Evening Miss Fannie Farris will present her summer class of piano pupils in a recital Friday evening at 8: P. M. at the Nuway Club House. Jerry Hobbs, Maricel Devine, Carolyn Allen, Gwen Hobbs, and Ollie Sue Hendricks had parts on the pro gram which was entitled, “Our Town.’’ The following members were present at the meeting Jerry Hobbs, Gwen Hobbs, Evelyn Roberts, Mrs. E. S. Elliott, Mar garet Anthony, Maricel Devine, Ollie Sue Hendrick, Winona Sum mer, Carolyn Allen, and Mrs. L. L. Summer. The October meeting will be held with Mrs. James Homesley. Miss Butler Hostess To G. A. Tuesday The Jr. G. A. Meeting was held at the home of Miss Jane Allen Butler, on Thursday afternoon, September 19th. The subject of the program was Patsy’s Paper Dolls and the Kingdom Giving the Story of how Foreign Chil dren Learn About Jesus. President Miriam Allen had charge of the program.
