Beam, S. 2|C, ol Bainbridge, Md., is spending a nine day furlough here with hie parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.C. Beam. Pvt. Jake Beam will return to Fort Belvoir, Va. Friday after several days visit here with his wife and children. Mr. John H. Smith returned to his home in London, Ky., Monday after a two weeks visit here with his daughter, Mrs. L. Webb Mc Ginnis and family. Miss Jackie Black, student at Greensboro College spent the Thanksgiving holidays here with her mother, Mrs. J. M. Black. Pvt. William D. Friday return ed to Fort Benning, Ga., Wed nesday after spending a fourteen day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L>. Friday. Mrs. Rupert Camp had as her dinner guests Thanksgiving Day, Mrs. Jack Houser and little daughter, Melinda Kay, Misses Lunez Houser, Nelta Gates, and Carmilla Gates. Miss Pacline Howell, a student at the Asheville Beauty Academy spent the Thanksgiving holidays here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Howell. The many friends of Mrs. Florence H. Craft, who under went an operation at the Memo rial Hospital in Charlotte last week will be glad to know she is improving nicely. Miss Lucy Lee Howell of Atlan ta, Ga. spent the Thanksgiving Holidays here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Howell. Miss Howell is employed in the display department at Rich’s, ‘‘The South’s Largest Store” in Atlan ta, Georgia. Mrs. Dr. Temple and children, Richard and Jennie of Lakeview, S. C., Mrs. Hunter Huss and chil dren, Jane, Hunter, Jr., Alice Marie and William Wade of Gas tonia were Sunday guests of Mrs. A. H. Huss and Miss Marie Huss. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Hickson, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Jenkins, Mrs. Ray Jenkins, and Kent Jenkins at tended the funeral of Mrs. H. A. Hickson, Sr., in Lynchburg, S. C., Sunday. Mrs. Hickson, mother of Mr. Hubert Hickson died at her home in Lynchburg Friday. Lt. Daphine Doster has boon transferred from Fiji Islands to somewhere in India. Lt. Doster will be reraembeied here as a member of the Cherryville school faculty several years ago. Sgt Edward Carpenter son of Mrs. A. P. Carpenter of Cheiry vilte Route 2 has received a dis charge from Fort McPherson, Ga. after serving In the army for two years and seven months. He re turned home Monday. Pvt. Julius L. Black received a discharge from Fort Bragg and has returned to his home here af ter serving in Italy, North Africa and other European areas. Mrs. George il Riddle and lit tle daughter, June, of Clover, spent the week-end here, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lave Car penter. Carter was hostess at a bridge party on Saturday ev ening, October 25, honoring her sister, Mrs. B. B. McKelvey of Easley, South Carolina. The home was arranged with colorful fall flowers. The high score prize went to Mrs. Isaac Payne, and Mrs. Ed win Rudisill won the bingo prize. The hostess presented Mise Lou ise Wyant, bride eleet, with a gift of crystal in her chosen pat tern. Mrs. McKelvey was also presented with a gift. The hostess served a salad course with accessories to the fol lowing guests, Mrs. B. B. Starnes, Emmett Houser, Misses Ava Houser, and Fannie Farris. Adams-Beam Announcement Of interest to their many friends is the marriage of Miss Helen Ad ams and Mr. Layne Beam. The ceremony took place in York, S. C. last Saturday, November 25th They were accompanied to York by Miss Inez Leonhardt and Mr. Farrel Baxter. The bride wore a suit of green with small brown hat and brown accessories. She is a daughter of Mrs. E. W. Adams and received her education at the Cherryville Schools. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Beam. He also at tended the Cherryville schools and recently received his medical discharge from the army. Wyant-Aiken En gagement Announced The engagement and approach ing marriage of Miss Louise Wy ant of Hickory to Malcolm Aiken of Durham and Creedmoor was announced last Friday night at a pretty party given by Mrs. Em mett Houser at her home here. Lovely'arrangements of autumn flowers added to the attractive ness of the rooms where six ta bles of contract bridge and hearts were played. As the guests entered they re ceived tallies to which were at tached tiny silver bells, an in scription on them revealed the engagement and the wedding date as December 24th. The bride-elect was most char ming in a dusty rose crepe dress with a corsage of tinted blue car nations. Miss Wyant, the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Vance Wyant of Hickory, is a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College and a member of the Cherryville City School faculty. Home made mints were served to the guests during the games. High score prize in bridge went to Mrs. Garland Sherrill while Mrs. G. V. Wyant received the hearts prize. The bride-elect was presented with a gift of crystal in her chosen pattern. Mrs. Grady Miller, sister of Miss Wyaat and a recent bride, was remembered with a gift.
