KESTER-GROOME FURNITURE COMPANY *; t OUR WISHES ARE AS ENDLESS AS THE CONTIN UOUS, UNBROKEN CIRCLE FORMED BY THE HOLLY WREATH WHICH MARKS OUR DOOR WAY AS ONE OF CHRISTMAS CHEER! BELK-MATTEWS CO CHRISTMAS AGAIN VVe great our readers again at this blessed Christman season. Another year has com* and gone since we wrote our last Christmas message. Thank God for His mercy and love to us all. Ha has done wonderful thingB for us, whereof we are glad. We feel to say with the Psalmist, “Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men.” (Psalm 107). Truly God is good to us. He is always mindful of our lives, our souls, and supplies our every need “according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus/* O how we should love Him, rever ence and adore Him, serve and worship Him I He is indeed the Lord of lords and King of kings. At this blessed time of year we always think of the shepherds who were out on the Judean hills near Bethlehem keeping watch over the flocks by night when “lo the angel of the Lord tume upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not; for, behond I j bring you good tidings of great joy j which shall . s to all peopie. c\r unto you i- hern this day t.i the city of Daviu a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto VjU: Ye shali And the Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes i lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multi tude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” (Luke men.” (Luke 2:9-14). That blessed event has thrilled the hearts of millions of people across the centuries of time, no doubt, and it still thrills their hearts. How we delight to think of our precious Savior’s birth 1 Though many great men have been born into the world since the birth of Christ, yet no other birth has meant so much to mankind. In fact we doubt if the birth of all good and great men combined equals that of Jesus. He was the Son of God. He came to make the plan of salvation so we could be saved from all sin, live godly lives, overcome the devil and the powers of hell, Anally escape the domains of hell and reach the Celestial City of God and receive a crown of everlasting life. This is enough to fill and thnll our hearts and souls with joy unspeakable, Halle lujah! x Liie wuria is rent and tom with war. Many thousands of our dear American sons have lost their lives on far-flung battlefields as well as multitudes in other na tions. The hearts of many, many dear fathers and mothers, wives and sweethearts, brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors have been saddened by the departure of these brave sons, husbands, brothers, fathers, sweethearts and friends. Many homes have a-va cant place in them that can never be filled. On the walls of these homes hang their pictures, but they have gone to meet God. It is 1 indeed sad, but all tha tears we might shed can never bring them back. All we can do is to live for God and look forward to meeting them in a better world than this, if they died in the triumphs of faith and godliness. So we would say to all those who have lost loved ones in this mighty war aid “11 have loved ones in the camps and on foreign soil, look up to Jesus. He is upon His throne, ( but loves us, can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, sympathizes with us, hears and answers prayer, and sends sweet conj^°rt to troubled hearts and Jesus is the Prince of Peace. He is not the author of war, strife, hatred and bloodshed. This be longs to the devil. Jesus came to save life, not to destroy it. He loves us, but the devil hates us. 0 that we may realize how it pays to live for God rather than the devil! No one ever regrets lettihg Christ come into his heart, soul and life and having full dominion However, all men, sooner or lat er» regret letting the enemy take possession of them. Jesus hi rises but the devil curses. Jesus makes life noble and sublime, but the devil makes it ignoble, or base. Jesus leads heavenward, but the devil leads hellward. Jesus saves, but the devil destroys. Then let’s give ourselves wholly, unreserved ly unto Christ. May this blessed Christmas sea son draw our readers closer to Christ than they have ever been. O that the sweetness of His love and grace, goodness, righteous ness and holiness may come in like a healing balm and make life • happier and sweeter than we have j ever realized before! May we love * Him out of tender, pure hearts { fervently. And some glorious day may we meet each other around the snow-white throne where He will wipe all tears from our eyes, and where we shall sing and shout His praises as the cycles of eter nity roll.
