Mr. and Mrs. Carl A. Rudisill
returned home Tuesday from Fort
Lauderdale, Florida where they
spent several weeks.

daughter, Margaret Rudisill, at
Salisbury are visiting her parents

Pvt. Nevert. McNeely returned
to Camp Forest, Tenn., Wednes
day after spending a furlough
here and in Hickory with relatives
T-Sgt. John Bennett Dellinger,
stationed at Sebring, Florida, ar
rived Saturday for a two weeks
visit with his wife and parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. Ben Dellinger.
Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Woltz spent
the week in Elloree, S. C. the
guests of their daughter, Mrs. A.
J. Hutto and Mr. Hutto. They
were accompanied home by Mrs.
Hutto and little son, Donnie who
will spend two weeks with them.
Gerry White, Petty Officer 3-0
U.S.N. has returned to duty after
being home on a 12 day furlough
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
R. Jj White. He has been over
seas for nine months since being
at home and has participated in
five of the mninr invasions and
two decisive battles. He holds the
Purple Heart which was awarded
him in February 1944,
Miss Screttia Seism, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Seism and
Mrs. Allen Black, returned home
.Monday, after spending (a few
Idays in Gambles Hospital in Lin-1
'colnton, due to injuries received
in a car wreck last Wednesday
night.
Pvt. Ralph D. Williams has no
tified his wife, the former Miss
Carrie Hallman that he is now
somewhere in France. Pvt. W illi
ams is the son of Mr. and Mrs. i). j
B. Williams of Rings Mountain '
and entered the service October
12, 1843. He received his basic
training at Fort Bragg, and was
also stationed at Fort Sill, Okla.,
and Camp Shlby, Mississippi, be
fore sailing.
Sunbeams Met
Monday Afternoon
Bobby McNeill and Jack Wells
were hosts to the Sunbeam meet
ing at the First Baptist church on
Monday afternoon immediately
after school.
Mrs. Ralph Moseley had charge
of th« program—Subject: “The
Church on W'tttii”. The program
was illustrated by showing how
the minister had to go to church
in a small boat, also how the peo
ple went to church in small boats
when they heard the big church
bell ring on the church m the big
boat. Each child was given a small
boat. The children also made a
cut out scene of Palestine and
placed it on sand tables. The hosts
Bobby and Jack, were assisted by
their mothers, Mrs. R. G. McNeill
and Mrs. Guy Wells »jn serving
lovely refreshments to the thirty
six children present.
Mrs. Aiken Hostess
To Readers Club
The Cherryville Readers Club
met with Mrs. Malcolm Aiken on
Thursday night, February 9th, at
8 o’clock.
During the business meeting
the yearbooks were distributed
to the members by Mrs. Heman
Hall, chairman of the committee.
Other reports were given and
books were exchanged for the
month.
Brief bibliographic sketches of
the life of Dr. A. J. Cronin, au
thor of “The Green Years” was
given by Mrs. Emmett Houser.
An interesting and informative
program was under the direction
of Mrs. Hunter Carroll. She spoke
on the outstanding events in the
lives of the five-star Generals
Douglas MacArthur and Ge°rge
(Marshall. Portraits and clippings
added to the discussion
Following the program Mrs. Ai
ken served a delightful 6alad plate
with accessories. She was assisted
by Mrs. Heman Hall and Mrs. Em
mett Houser.

Societies Meet
The W. H. and P. M. Societies
met at the home of Mrs. Knox
Barrier Saturday night, February
17th. The subject for discussion
was “The Wesleyan Methodist
Missionary Work in India.” The
following topics were discussed
by members of the society. Origin
of Wesleyan Missions in India,
Sanjan, and the workers there,
Dondi Marioli and the workers
there.

Engagement
The engagement of Miss Kath
erine Dellinger to Pvt. A. B. Mor
row, Jr., was announced Saturday
night at a dinner party given at
the Jolly Hotel in Gastonia.
The place cards were double
lead hearts tied at the side with
white ribbon and on the inside
bore the inscription — Katherine
and A. B. Jr.,—Soon.
Covers were laid for the follow
ing: Miss Dellinger, Pvt. Morrow
Mr. and Mrs. James Queen of
Forest City, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Harelson, Miss Nettie Dellinger,
and Mrs. Olivia Martin.
Miss Dellinger is the daughter
of Mrs. H. Lee Dellinger and the
late Mr. Dellinger.
pvt. Morrow is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. A. B. Morrow, Sr. He
has recently returned from 11
months in the European Theatre
of Operations.
No date has been set for the
wedding.
Miss Adams Bride
Of Wm. B. Payseur
A marriage of much interest to
their many friends is that of Miss
Kathleen Adams and William B.
Payseur, S. 1-C. The ceremony
was performed in Gattney S. C.
on Thursday afternoon at 5 o -
clock on February 16th.
The bride was lovely in an aqua
suit with which she wore black
and white accessories. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. L.
Adams and' received her educa
tion in the Cherryville Public
Schools.
The groom is the son of Mr.
W. B. Payseur and the late Mrs.
Payseur of Lincolnton. He atten
ded Balls Creek .High School and
Campbells College. Shortly alter
entering college he enlisted in the
U. S. Navy and has recently re
turned home from the South Pa
cific on a 30-day furlough after
eighteen months overseas.
He will return to Seattle, Wash,
for further assignment and Mrs.
Payseur will remain here with her
parents.

Met Tuesday Night
The Intermediate G. A.s of the
First Baptist Church met Tuesday
night with Miss Ollie Mayhue. Co

the home of his grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. J. F. Wright. Mrs. Rhyne
is the former Miss Ruby Self. She
and Jerry Lee have been making
their home with Mr. and Mrs,
Wright since Pvt. Rhyne entered
the service several months ago.
He has recently been shipped over
seas. Jerry Lee received two war
bonds among other gifts. One
from his grandparents and one
from his father. _
