Cpl. Lloyd V. Carpenter of Ft. Bragg, spent the week-end here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Carpenter. Mrs. M. A. Stroup returned home Friday from Washington where she went for the gradua tion exercises of George Washing ton Medical School held on Wed nesday, May .10th. Her son, M. A. Stroup, Jr., was a member of the graduation class and return ed home with her. Mrs. J. M. Black and son, Mark Black, Jr., spent the week-end in Greensboro attending the gradu ation exercises of Greensboro College, Miss Jackie Black was a member of the Graduation class, receiving her A. B. Degree.. Miss Black was also a member of the Magna Cum Laude. Willard Goins, S. C. Petty Offi cer left Saturady for Charleston, S. C. for reassignment. He was stationed in England and France for sixteen months and has been a patient in an England hospital, an 1 St. Albans Hospital since December 12, 1944. Mrs. Bill Black and daughter, Ginger, attended the graduating exercises in Lincolnton. Mrs. Black’s sister, Janice Seagle, a member of the graduating class was the May Queen in the Class Day Exercises Friday and she gave the salutatory address Mon day night., M.A. Stroup, .Tr., and his moth er, Mrs. M. Entertains At Buffet Supper Miss Peggy Youngblood and Miss Polly Perkins entertained on Wednesday evening at a buffet supper at Miss Youngblood's homo on Spruce Street. The af fair was given in honor of Miss Geneva Brackett, bride-elect of tune, who will join Thomas L. Queen B-M 2-C at Banana River, Florida. The wedding will take place next week. They will make their home in Cocoa, Florida. 1 Bowls of mixed flowers were used throughout the home. Miss Youngblood and Miss Perkins •vore assisted in entertaining by Mrs. It. K. Youngblood and Mrs. r. .1. Parker. Several of the bride-elect’s friends, were invited. Mrs. Eugene Gambler of Shel by spent Wednesday and Thurs day here the guest of Mrs. J.M. Beam. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Butler re turned Tuesday from Staunton, Va., where they attended the graduation exercises at Staunton Military Academy. They were ac companied home "by their son, S. M. Butler, Jr., who will be a seni or there next year. Mrs. Aiken Honored At Dinner Party The faculty members of Ele mentary No. 1 and Miss Minnie Coleman entertained at a dinner at Jolly’s in Gastonia last Wed nesday Noon, honoring Mrs. Mal colm Aiken, who left Sunday for Creedmoor to make her home with her husband. Mrs. Aiken, the former Miss Louise Wyant, has been a member of the facul ty of Cherryville Schools for the past three years. After a three course dinner, Mrs. Aiken was presented with a lovely punch bowl set in the Cape Cod pattern. Triple-Deck Bridge Club Entertained The Triple-Deck Bridge Club met with Mrs. Robert McNeil, on Thursday, at a dessert-bridge in honor of Miss Gwendolyn Hobbs, bride-elect. The home of Mrs. McNeill was most attractively decorated with cut flowers in keeping with the season. Each guest was presented with a corsage of sweetpeas af ter which they were invited into the dining room where the hon or guest, Miss Hobbs, cut a dain ty adorned wedding cake. After* this the party adjourned to ad joining rooms for a social hour of bridge. Miss Hobbs was remembered with gifts of crystal in her cho sen pattern. Farrell of Melbourne Australia, announces the marri age of her daughter, Isabel Jane Farrell, to T-4 Eugene S. Mc Ginnis, on June 2, 1945 at 4:30 o’clock. T-4 McGinnis entered the ser vice in November 1940 as a vol unteer and has been overseas since March 1, 1941. He first landed in Australia and has since been stationed in Australia, Now Guinea and the Philippines. The bride, w’ho was born in England went to Australia with her parents when a small girl. She is in the Australian 'service. Miss Hobbs Honored 'At Lovely Tea Mrs. D. R. Mauney and Mrs. J. I. Payne entertained at an infor-' mal tea on Tuesday afternoon, at their home on South Mulberry Street, honoring Miss Owen Hobbs, whose marriage to Ral eigh Putnam was an event of last Wedensday evening at the First. Baptist Church. The Mauney home was artisti cally arranged with colorful sum mer flowers and lighted candles. The dining table was covered with a handsome imported linen 1 cloth with a centerpiece of tinted daisies and fever few mixed with lighted tapers. Mrs. Payne received at the door and introduced the guests to the receiving line: Miss Janet Ifobbs, sister of the bride, Miss j Gwendolyn Hobbs, bride-elect, I Mrs. John E. Wooten and Miss Julia Stanley of Richmond, Va., Miss Ofelia Robinson of Weaver ville, and Mrs. Jack Williams of Gastonia. Mrs. D. R. Mauney received in the dining room, where delicious ' refreshments, consisting of color ful sandwiches, cookies and punch were served by Miss Jerry Hobbs, sister of the bride-elect, Mrs. J. Elizabeth Ann Hous er Has Birthday Party Elizabeth Ann Houser celebra ted her 10th birthday anniversa ry on Saturday afternoon from four to six at her home on Church street. The rooms were attractively decorated with quantities of mix ed summer flowers. In the dining room the dining table was cover ed with a lace cloth and the cen ter piece was a two tiered birth day cake in green and pink topped with pink lighted candles in rose bud holders.
