Butler at tended the Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia December 1st. Mrs. H. D. Bess, Sr. of Bess’ Chapel Community is improving satisfactorily following an opera ton in the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte recently. • Mrs. M. T. Sniffin has return |ed to her home in Kensington, Md., after spending four weeks here with her parents, Mr. and Mi's. D. H. Bess. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Beam and Mrs. Jack Houser and little laughter, Melinda Kay, spent the iweek-enl in Newport News, Va., the guest of First Clas* Petty Officer and Mrs. Martel Beam. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Peeler have returned to their home in Arling ton, Va., after being constantly at the bedlside of the latter’s mother, Mrs. H. I). Bess, Sr., who is in the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Master “Kenny” Hovis, 6pent the past week-end in Cherryville, with his grand-mother, Mrs. C. E. McCurry and other relatives. He was accompanied to Cherry ville by Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Browne, Jr., of Hickory. Cadet Sgt. S. M. Butler, Jr., a senior at Staunton Military Aralemy will arrive Friday to spend the Christmas holiday^ with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Butler. Mrs. Dora M. Beam of Flay Community visited her sister, Mrs. Li. H. Bess. Sr., in the Presbyter ian Hospital in Charlotte, Sun day. Mrs. Bess is recovering sat isfactory following a recent oper ation. She also visited her daugh ter, Mrs. Bryn Dellinger at tl * Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Delling er is improving from treatment and is expected home shortly. MRS. ALLEN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS HAS CHRISTMAS PARTY Mrs. H. H. Allen’s Sunday School Class which i* made up of girls from the Intermeliate De partment gave its annual Christ | mas party at the church last [Tuesday night. I Christmas Carols were sung, games were played and gifts ex changed. About twenty-five were present. Fidelis Sun. School Class Meets The Fidelis Sunday Sichool Clas6 of the First Baptist church held its annual Christmas party on Friday night, December 7th, at the home of Mrs. V. C. Peeler. A delicious cover dish dinner was served upon the arrival of the guests. Following the program, games were enjoyed and gift* exchang ed. Those present were Mrs. 1^ C. McDowell, Grady McGinnis, N. R. Readers Club Has Christmas Dinner Members of the Cherryville Reader, Club and their husbands were entertained at a lovely Christmas dinner last Friday ev ening at 7:30 o’clock by Mrs. Hunter Carroll and Mrs. John Beach at the home of the former. The rooms were attractively arranged with seasonal flowers, a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, and candelabra. Red can dles tied :with sprigs of holly caught with red bows centered the tables. The guests found their places at the tables by in dividual nlace cards adorned with Santa Clauses. A delicious three-course (I n ner was served by the hostesses. Fojlowing the dinner, the guests enjoyed playing bingo and sing ing Christmas carols. Hunter Carroll. MISS CATHERINE SYBIL SISK BECOMES BRIDE OF G. W. MacDOW Iii a ceremony of exceptional charm and beauty taking place last. Thursday evening at seven thirty o'clock at the First Meth odist Church, Miss Catherine Sy bil Sisk and Mr. George Wilson MacDow were united in mar riage with the Rev. Beattie Av ery Sisk, father of the bride, read ing the ritual. Rev. I,, i’. Bar nette, pastor, assisting. The chan cel was arranged with palms and Cents, seven branched candela bra holding white cathedral tap ers, and floor baskets filled with white gladoli. Mrs. H. H. Allen, organist, and Miss Jennie Lee Bryson of Greensboro, soloist, presented a program of nuptial music. Be fore the ceremony, Mrs. Allen played Serenade, by Schubert; Salut d’ Amour, by Elgar; Avo Maria, by Schubert; and Calm as the Night, by Bahnt. Miss Bry 'son’s numbers were: At Dawn ling; Arrangement of O Perfect i Love, and Because, by d'Hai de lot. During the ceremony Mrs. Allen softly played Lieb’estraum. by Liszt and just before the benediction Miss Bryson sang “The Lords Prayer". The Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin was used for the processional and Me:: lelssohn’s Wedding March for the recessional. Mrs. Elsie Bauer, sister of the < Hri.di\ was mation of honor, and, :Miss Katherine Stanley was main of honor. Misses Jackie Black and Clara Self were bri esmaid*. All of these wore white net posed over with satin, featuring the fitted bodices and skirts extremely full. They earned bouquets of white flowers caught with large hows of red satin rib Cshers were William V. The bride was lovely in white satin wedding gown made j with a sweetheart neckline, a i fitted bodice, lung sleeves end- j ing in calla points over the hands, and a full skill extending 1 into a train. Services At Second Baptist Church Services next Sunday at Sec ond Baptist Church will consist of Sunday School at 9:45; morn ing worship at 1 1 ; Baptist Train ing Unions at 0, and evening wor ship at 7.
