Gates Mrs. C. V. Cross, C. V., Jr., aiii Roma faee Cross, and Mrs. M. -Goodman visited relatives 4n Newport News Sunday. Mrs. J. R. Freeman and Miss •Anita Freeman have returned home after an extended visit .with Lt. and Mrs. J. R. Freeman, Jr., at Orlanda, Fla. Miss Mildred Umphlette spent last week visiting her sister, Mrs. -Wallace Mathias of Newport News. Mr. and Mrs. Emmitt Holland and daughter of Newport News were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Parker. Mr. and Mrs. Aubry Mathews and children of Portsmouth jspent several days last week visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Mathews. H. S. Hayes of Newport News r.pent Thursday and Friday visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hayes. He was accompani ed home by his son, Johnny, who -had been visiting relatives here, and Robbie Eure, who will spend several days there. Miss Barbara Draper of Suf folk is spending sometime visit ing Dorothy Ann Burton. Mi's. J. G. Pollock and son re lumed last week from Warsaw, where they spent sometime visit ing Mr. Pollock’s mother. Mr. and Mrs. John Tyler and Children of Robersonville, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Tyler of New -Kern, and J. J. Tyler of Hen dersonville were visitors in the ‘home of Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Tyler during the weekend. Miss Billy Greene is spending .sometime in Newport News visiting relatives. Mrs. J. R. Freeman and daugh ter, Anita, spent the weekend ■with Mrs. Celia Langston and daughter, Mary. M. -P. Harry Langston, Jr., of the U. S. Army, Washington, D. C., spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Langston. Mrs. Celie Everett returned home Sunday afternoon after visiting her daughters, Mrs. Frank Duke and Mrs. Clyde Draper of Suffolk. Dick Tyler returned home i last week from Lakeview Hos pital after having an appendi citis operation. Mary Lee Burton spent last week visiting her grandmother, Mrs. John Burton, of Newport News. Mrs. J. E. Carroll and Mrs. H. C. Eason spent last Monday visiting M. P1. Ellis at Lakeview Hospital. Mrs. Mary Ridley and Mary Ann Barlow of Norfolk are visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. T. J. Ellenor. Mrs. J. E. Carroll visited her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Rawles, of Como Monday night. Mrs. Emmit Parker spent week before last visiting her husband in Portsmouth. H. C. Eason is suffering from pleurisy. Mrs. G. L. Gatling Is Hostess to WSCS Gates.—Mrs. G. L. Gatling was hostess to the Woman’s So ciety of Christian Service of Kitrells Church Wednesday af ternoon. Devotionals were conducted by Mrs. T. J. Whitehead, using the theme, “He Healed the Sick.” Mrs. M. L. Greene, Mrs. C. T. Derby, and Mrs. T. J. White head discussed the medical work in Africa. The society decided to have their Bible study, Tuesday af ternoon, July 25. “God and the Problem of Suffering” will be the book presented. Mrs. R. E. Miller and Mrs. C. V. Cross were appointed to serve on the flower committee. After a brief business session, presided over by Mrs. C. V. Cross, the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Harry Tyler and Miss Mal ene Langston, served refresh ment. Mrs. H. L. Langston invited the society to meet with her for the August meeting. Roduco Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Horton of Newport News, Va., spent several days during the past week with his brother and sis ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Horton. Mrs. (Piennie Howell of Suffolk is spending sometime with Mrs. G. M. Brown. Mrs. Earlie Sanderson of Wal lace is spending sometime with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Char lie Eure. Mrs. Hilton Babb and two children of Suffolk spent Tues day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Piland. Mrs. N. T. Felton is a pat ient at Norfolk General Hospi tal, where she recently under went an operation. She is re ported doing nicely.
