School bus drivers who wish
to secure their health certifi
cates from the health depart
ment should report there for
examination on Wednesday
morning, September 20 th or
27th, at 10:00 a. m. The office
will close at noon. Fluoroscopic
examinations are held each
Wednesday afternoon at 3:00
p. m. in Winton. Appointments
should first be .made at the
health department office in
Gatesville if a trip to Winton is
necessary, according to Mrs.
Elizabeth Crouse, public health
nurse.

Miss Oma Lee Parker Becomes
Bride of Lt. Howard C. Holland
The marriage of Miss Oma Lee
Parker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas E. Parker of Gates, to
Lt. (jg) Howard Causey Hol
land, TJSNR, son of Mr. and Mrs.
J. C. Holland, also of Gates, was
solemnized Friday, September 15.
at 5 o’clock in the Kittrell's
Methodist church, the Rev. T. .J.
Whitehead officiating.
Mrs. Lloyd Godwin of Ahoskie,
accompanied by Mrs. T. E. Pitt
man of Gates, sang.
The bride wore a chateau blue
suit of Julliard wool made on
soft dressmaker lines and edged
with hand crocheted wool trim
ming in self color. She used
brown accessories and wore a
corsage of bride’s roses and step
hanotis.
Emmett O. Parker, uncle o£ the
bride, and Aydlette Holland,
brother of the groom, were
ushers.
Mrs. Emmett O. Parker acted
as mistress of ceremonies.
The mother of the bride wore
a dress of black crepe and a
corsage of gardenias.
Mrs. Holland, a graduate of
the Woman’s College, Greens
boro, is a member of the Ahos
kie high school faculty.
Lt. Holland has recently re
turned from a tour of duty in
the Pacific. He is a graduate of
the University of North Caro
lina and before entering the
Navy was principal of Marion
high school.

Leave lor College
Sunbury.—Mr. and Mrs. Her
bert Miller left this week to
register as students iat Wake
Forest College. For the past few
years Mr. Miller has served as
pastor of the following church
es: Beulah, Eureka and Hobbs
Ville.
He plans to get his degree and
act as a student pastor. Mrs.
Miller, likewise, plans to finish
her college training and major
in elementary education.

Cpl. Hinton Rountree, who
visited his parents in August for
the first time in five years of
military service, reported at
Miami Beach September 4 for
further assignment.
Cpl. Rountree was in the battle
of Guadalcanal and was at Pearl
Harbor at the surprise attack
that opened the war with Japan.
He was also on the island of New
Zealand.
He was sent back to the States
for a rest.
CLUB MEETS
Drum Hill. — The Horne De
monstration club of Hazelton
met in the home of Mrs. Era
King Friday with 16 members
present.
Mrs. W. J. Sawyer was elected
chairman for the war fund drive.
After serving refreshments, the
meeting adjoined to meet with
Mrs. T. D. Hyatt next month.

For College Students
Sunbury—On Saturday even
ing Mrs. Mills Riddick was host
ess to a porch supper given in
honor of those leaving for Elon
College. Maroon and gold flow
ers were used, carrying out the
college colors, and there was a
two-course supper. Mrs. Riddick
was assisted in serving by her
daughter, Miary Anne, and Miss
Carroll Godwin of Suffolk, Va.

Teacher Exams To
Be Had This Month
All teachers are reminded to
get their health certificates
either from a private physician
or at the health department dur
ing the month of September, if
possible, says Mrs. Elizabeth
Crause, public health nurse.
“Remember, if you have once
had a “positive” reaction to the
tuberculin test, do not take it
again. You only need to be
fluoroscoped.”
The nurse is in her office each
Monday, Wednesday, Friday,
and Saturday morning for the
rest of September. Her sche
dule will be crowded next month
so teachers should see her dur
ing September.

Preach During
Revival Service
Winton.—Revival services will
be conducted at Cool Spring
Baptist church, Gates county, for
one week beginning Sunday,
September 24, it is announced by
Rev. J. E. Naier, pastor of the^
church. ' ™
Rev. A. T. Powell, Aiken, S.
C., will be the preacher for the
services, assisting the pastor.
Rev. Powell is a native of the
Cool Spring neighborhood and
a former member of the church.
Services will be held daily at
4 in the afternoon at 8 o’clock
in the evening.
