Spotted Yields Are Expected By Peanut Farmers While farmers in the Roanoke Chowan section prepare for dig ging peanuts, with a prospect for very spotted yields as a result of the dry weather that has re tarded the crop over a large part of the section, the official forecast for the state for peanut pi’oduction is 19 percent greater than the 1943 crop—or 73 per cent larger than the 10-year average. Peanut digging has begun on a few farms in the Roanoke Chowan section this week, but will not be general yet for ten or fifteen days. Production estimates from the Southeastern area indicate a 2 pei'cent increase over last year’s and in the Southwestern area an increase of 22 percent. Rain fell over most of the Southwest ern area last week improving growing conditions for the un harvested crop in North Texas and Oklahoma but damaging to some extent the unpicked crop in South Texas. Rain likewise in the Southeast producing area retarded picking in Georgia and Florida, with some damage to kernals. Total pi-oduction of pea nuts this year is estimated at 2.365.630,000 pounds as com pared with 2,199.960,000 har vested last year.
