Williams and Miss Marion Williams. Mr. Wil liams spent the weekend here and accompanied her home. Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Overman visited Mrs. Overman’s sister, Mrs. 'Woodrow Hofler, at Nor folk Genearl Hospital Sunday. Mrs. Emerald Lawrence and daughter, Jo, of South Norfolk, spent the weekend with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. White. Mrs. Paul Liniger and Mrs. Wesley Parker are visiting Mrs. Liniger’s brother, Mr. Prysock, in Ohio, who is seriously ill. George Minton and Mrs. Minton and son and Mrs. Daniels of Norfolk, Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Gillenwaters and children, Billie and Ann, Mrs. W. M. Lawson and Miss Elsie Minton, of New port News, visited Mr., and Mrs. D. E. Minton and Miss Dorothy Minton during the weekend. Among those who visited the Hotel Edwards during the week end on account of serious illness of Mrs. C. O. Edwards are Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Hooten and daughter, Frances, of Knoxville. Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Hy man and son, Ned, of Gaston, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Baker and baby, Pamela, Mrs. L. B. Howell and J. E. Hinton, of Portsmouth, Mrs. J. J. Rountree and C. W. Hinton, of Norfolk, Mrs. R. E. Pittman and Miss Bess Hyman, of Greenville. CLUB MEMBERS. ENTER CANNING CONTEXT Roduco.—The home demon stration club met with Mrs. J. T. Eure on Thursday night. Miss Patterson mentioned the coming Bond Drive and stated that more datails would be given later. She also gave some in formation gained -at the recent cheese-making demonstrat i o n held in Gatesville. Books were exchanged and a book review was given by Mrs. Lloyd ‘Askew. The lesson on “Using What You Have” was given by Miss Patterson with a demonstration of two coats. Every member present -en tered the canning contest} first selection went to Mrs. V. M. Parker and second to Mrs. J. T. Eure. The most unusual canning was a jar of corn on the- cob en tered by Mrs. H .P. King. Refreshments of ;:ice cream, cake and apples were served to Mrs. H. P. King, Mrs. Odessa White, Mrs. V. M. Parker, Mrs. Lloyd Askew, Mrs. Charles Eure, Mrs. J. T. Eure, Misses Ona Patterson, Mildred Turner and Dorothy White. Funeral Mrs. Lucy Brown Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy O. Brown, age 71, who died sud denly at the home of her daugh ter, Mrs. J. J. Meeder, early Sun day morning, were conducted in the Gatesville Methodist church Monday afternoon by the Rev. J. M. Joliff. 10 YEARS AGO Cotton Burned at Gin Fifteen bales of cotton stored on the platform of the J. W. Brown, Inc., gin near Trotville were found burning, Saturday morning about four o’clock. Mr. Brown believes that the fire was accidental. Four Attend Institute Mrs. Walter Riddick and Mrs. T. W. Blanchard, of Hobbsville, Mrs. G. D. Cross of Gatesville, became the bride of Cpk Cyril C. Mason in a ceremony Sunday afternoon at the Baptist Parson age in Pheobus, Va. The ring ceremony was used. Among those from Gatesville who at tended the wedding were Mrs. Virgie Cross, John Cross, the bride’s nephew, and Mrs. O .C. Turner. Miss Cross, graduate of Gates ville High School and Norfolk Business College, had been nurs ing at Kecoughtan Veterans Hospital. Cpk Mason, native of Nova Scotia, Canada, is a mem ber of the U. S. Army and is sta tioned at the Hampton Roads Port of Embarkation. After a wedding trip to Boston, they will make their home in Newport News. I Eure and Eason, 55, Honored At Birthday Dinner J. R. HOME DEMONSTRATION CLUB MEETS IN HOBBSVILLE Hobbsville.—Mrs. Forest Wig gins and Mrs.” Ned Rountree were hostesses to the home de monstration club which met at the school building Monday af ternoon, with 19 members pre sent. Mrs. Haywood Bunch, the club president, presided. Nine mem bers entered the canning con test with Mrs. E. L. Eure win ning first place, Mrs. Carrie Col lins second place, and Mrs. Hay wood Bunch, third. Miss Ona Patterson gave a de monstration on clothing: “Using What You Have.” The hostesses served jello with whipped cream and cookies. Watson Lawrence Hazel Babb -Wed - A wedding of interest was celebrated Saturday night in Suf folk, at the home of the officiat ing minister, Dr. Harry Jeter Goodwin, pastor of First Bap tist Church, when Miss Hazel E. Babb, daughter of C. L. Babb of Suffolk, and the late Mrs. Babb-^r. became the bride of Watson Law^ rence, USNR, son of Mr and Mrs. W. H. Lawrence of Gates ville. The bridegroom had for his best man his father, W. H. Law rence, of Gatesville. After the cermony Mr .and Mrs. Lawrence left for a brief wedding trip and will live in Suffolk.
