Share in Infantile Paralysis « Campaign The principals of the schools in the county who are serving 'as neighborhood chairmen for their respective neighborhoods are putting forward a splendid effort to contact every citizen in the county. (Besides calling on the pupils to contact their parents and bring donations to the schools, they are visiting the churches and asking for contributions. On the past Sunday, Mrs. Lennie Sylves ter of the Hudgins Branch school received more than $5.00 at the Union Branch Baptist Church. Other teachers report that*con tributions are coming in nicely. Provision has also been made in the stores for those who care to give money to help this worthy cause. Do not let the opportunity pass to help fight Infantile Paralysis this month. Farmers and Farm Women To Meet Jointly Farmers and farm women in Gates county are especially urged to attend a series of meetings dur ing the following days of this month. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss farm activi ties in Gates county for the next few months. The subject of each meeting is “Looking Ahead”. Both Extension Agents will at tend the meetings and give in formation received at the plan > ning meeting recently attended at Tarboro. The meetings are scheduled as follows: Thursday, January 25,# p. m., Aerial School. Friday, January 26, 2 p. m., Corapeake School. Monday, January 29, 5 p. m., Ballards Grove School. Tuesday, January 39, 2 p. m., Gates Training School. Wednesday, January 31, 2 p. m., Roduco School. Thursday, February 1, 2 p. m., Key’s Fork School. Friday, February 2, 2 p. m., Buckland School. These meetings are planned so as to help all farmers in the county in the farm program for this year. It is highly hoped that there will be a good attendance at each school. Farmers Advisory Board To . Meet Next Monday A special meeting bf the Gates County Farmers Advisory Board will he held at the Reid’s Grove School on 'Monday, January 29, at 1 p. m. Each member is urged to be present. The Advisory Board is made up of the following farm ers representing each community in the county: S. D. Stallings, chairman, Rev. S. R. Hill, vice chairman, E. T. Piland, J. C. Sav age, A. F. Rascoe, J. J. Matthews of Gatesville; J. M. Lee, J. Z. Booker, Rev. E. H. Griffin, Ches ter Goodman and Alexander Poi son of Corapeake; Aaron Wiggins, William Powell, John Beamon, J. L. Lassiter, W. T. Costen, John Faulk and J. W. Costen of Sun bury; C. P. Hayes, R. A. Harrell and Noah Ballard of Eure; A. T. Dildy, P. J. Gatling, David Rooks, C. E. Riddick and J. P. Boone of Gates; J. A. Jones, J. W. Kee, J. P. Twine and C. H. Hobbs of Hcbbsville. Any other farmers who would like to attend this meeting are invited to come. The meeting is to begin at 1 o’clock and will last about two hours. Cows For Sale Any farmer who wishes to pur chase a firstg rade family cow may *do so by contacting the Negro County Agent. A few heifers were ordered by farmers who for some reason failed to take them. If they ate not called for before Thurs day, January 25, at 12 o’clock. They will foe sold along with some other heifers, at an auction sale which will be at the home of the Negro County Agent, Thursday, January 25. Hinton's Grove Club to Meet Hinton’s Grove 4-H club will hold its meeting at the school on Friday, January 26 at 11 o’clock. All 4-H club leaders and parents are especially urged to attend this meeting. The county and Home Agents will have important in formation to give at this time. Negro News By ELIZABETH T. ANDREWS County Council Meeting The County Council of Home Demonstration club women will meet at Reid’s Grove School, Monday, January 29 at 1:00 p. m. All officers and leaders of all the Home Demonstration clubs are asked to be present and on time. Miss Willette Townes, Sub ject Matter Specialist from State College, Raleigh, and Mrs. Fannie T. Newsome, District Supervisor, will be at the meet ing to give special instruction. It is hoped that all clubs will be well represented as they will lie profited by what will be taught in this meeting. Plans for 1945 will be discussed by the Home Agent. Exhibit A canning and needlecraft exhibit was, held at the Reid’s Grove School, oh Wednesday, January 17 by the Gatesville home demonstration club. The club women had their stage beautifully decorated with red white and blue colors and their needle work and canned foods were displayed beautifully. The judges, Rev. R. R. Purnell, Mrs. Mary Rooks and Miss Oelestine Dilday had a very hard job de termining the winners. A prize was awarded to Mrs. James Paye for having the greatest variety of canned foods. Mrs. Paye, who is canning leader for her club, had 36 different jars of fruits, vegetables, pickles and meats. Mrs, Lillie Barham re ceived the second prize for hav ing the most beautifully packed foods. In the needle craft exhibit, Mrs. James Paye received the first prize for having made a very pretty candlewick bed spread. Second prize was given to Mrs. Ethel Piland for the very neat work done on a little dress for her daughter. The exhibits proved very interesting and everyone enjoyed being pre sent. Community Meetings There will not be any home demonstration meetings, as such, this month, but Community Meetings will be held where horns demonstration meetings are scheduled. These meetings will be joint neighborhood meet ings with both men and women attending. It is hoped that all club members will be present along with their neighbors. Friday, February 2, Buckland School, at 2 p. m. 4-H County Council During the past week the Farm and Home Agents Pave re organized the 4-H County Coun cil and the 4-H clubs here in the County. The officers of the County Council are as follows: President, Clarine Boone; vice president, Janette Hinton; secre tary, Odessa Riddick; assistant secretary, Dorothy Smith; trea surer, Ivoin Mullen; reporters, Linwood Kelly and Odessa Dildy. It is hoped that all 4-H club members will strive to make this the best club year they have ever had. It is also hopd that the parents of each child will cooperate in helping their chil dren to secure and complete their projects. . Chowan Wins 2 From Cates High Sctiooi Teams Chowan high school added two more victories to her list by de feating the Gates high school, boys and girls, Friday in a twin court thill at Edenton. The girls’ teams of the two schools started off in a nip-and tuck affair and tied the score 5 all at the end of the first stanza. The second and third quarters Chowan out played the visitors, held the visitors scoreless for the second quarter, allowed a single field goal the third quarter and the count stood 20-7. The last quarter was by far the best stanza in the game. Gates scored six points while Chowan added five and ended the game 30-13 for Chowan. Carolyn Jessup with 20 points to her credit was high scorer for the Chowan girls while Lassiter with 9 was best for Gates. Lineup: Chowan (30) (13) Gates Perry (8) .
