All-Stars Lose Two Games; Win One By “Bright Eyes” Brake Ahoskie.—Eure baseball nine handed Ahoskie All-Stars their third defeat of the season Sun day on the Roduco diamond, 11-5. Savage Barnes pitched for Ahoskie and Carlton Eure and Duke Hill for Eure. Star batters for Ahoskie were Franklin Dunn, Joe Bonin, Thomas Dilday, Ernest Williams. Bruce Callis, USN, who is on leave, played for the All-Stars Sunday. The Ahoskie All-Stars slug ged their way to a 16-2 triump against Jackson “B” team Wed nesday afternoon on the Ahos kie diamond. Gilbert Vaughan hurled the first five innings, allowing one hit, two walks, and striking out six. He was relieved the first of the sixth inning*by “Bright Eyes” Brake, who allowed one hit, two walks and struck out seven. — The star batters for Ahoskie were Thomas Dild'ay and Ernest Willoughby, both getting four hits out of five times at the bat. The star fielders were Johnson and Doughtie. Ahoskie start line-up: Dilday c, Vaughan p, Copeland lb, Um phlett 2b, Brake ss, Humphrey 3b, Doughtie rf, Johnson cf, Wil loughby If. The Jackson “A” team gave the Ahoskie All Stars a 10-2 de feat Sunday afternoon, June 3, on the Jackson diamond. Savage Barnes did the mound work for Ahoskie. Harrellsville-Mars Hill Team Wins ll-l Harrellsville.—Carlton Hollo anon, ace righthander of the Har rellsville-Mars Hill team, turn ed back Conway without a hit in a 11 to 1 route in Ahoskie Sunday. The only Conway run came as the result of two consecutive er rors in the second inning. Jessie Cofield, Harrellsville-Mars Hill veteran outfielder, led the bat tery assault with a three run homer in the first inning'. Britt L. Jackson Will Play Gamp Lee Sunday Jackson. — The Jackson base ball club will play the Camp Lee, Va., service team, Sunday afternoon, June 17, on the local diamond at 3:30 o’clock, Mana ger Rives Taylor stated yester day. The locals defeated Franklin, Va., 6 to 2, Sunday afternoon. O’ Berry and Harrington pitched for Jackson. Beaman caught. Bar ham pitched for Franklin. The locals lost a game to Har vey Point Naval Base, last Wed nesday, 6 to 8. Buhl's Air Sailor Fourth in Derby - Ahoskie.—Lieut. Comdr. T. D. Buhl’s “Air Sailor” failed to finish in the money by a neck as the 13 other horses finished far back, according to radio re ports of . the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, Ky., Saturday. In Ahoskie Ffiday on the eve of the Derby, Comdr. Buhl ad mitted that Air Sailor wasn’t “a mudder.” He knew the track was wet and Air Sailor’s chances to win became slimmer as the track became muddier. Hoop, Jr., came in first; Pot O’Luck, second; Parby Dieppe, third; and Air Sailor, fourth. Air Ssfilor came in four lengths ahead of Jeep. Lieut. Comdr. Buhl is station ed at the Naval Air Station (LTA), Elizabeth City. Ahoskie “All-Stars” To Play Aulander Ahoskie. — The Ahoskie “All Stars” will play the Aulander team on the local diamond Wed nesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. On Sunday the “All Stars” and the Colerain team will meet on the local diamond at 3:30 o'clock. Lack of Textiles Hinders Car Making Ahoskie. — The average pre war car used, approximately 56 yards of textiles and the lack of these materials today may prove a barrier to the construction of new cars unless the scarcity eases or satisfactory substitutes are arrived at, D. U. Bathrick, general sales manager of Pontiac Motor Division, said today. 'Bathrick pointed out that-1,000 cars require 4,736 yards of broadcloth or 3,748 yards of mo hair, 3,560 yards of head lining, 2,316 yards of carpeting, 4,761 yards of cotton sheeting and 16, 679 yards of burlap.
