Piland of Raleigh spent the weekend in the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Lawrence. He was accompanied home by his daughter, Lawrence Piland, who has been spending sometime with her grandparents. Capt. J. D. Walters of Long Island, N. Y., and Cpl. Henry Walters of Denver, Colo., visited their sister-in-law, Mrs. C. C. Walters recently, Capt. Walters spending the weekend and Cpl. Walters Monday. Bolken and son, Raymond, Mrs. A. P. Bremer and son, Skipper, Mr. and Mrs. Kowalski and daughters, Dorothy and Katherine, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Swain and son, Raymond, Mrs. C. A. Bremer and Mr. Ollie Bremer, all of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Mary Lackey of Roanoke, Va., who is spending several weeks here as guest of Mr. and Mrs. Carter. Afternoon guests were Mrs. W. E. Pierce and son, Paul Glenn, Mrs. George Bowen and son, George, Jr. OUTING AT COLERAIN Colerain.—Tazewell Eure took a crowd of Gatesville youths on an overnight outing here Satur day and Sunday. The boys, 18 in number, camped in the pavilion and prepared their own meals. The boys who made the trip were Edward Lee Smith, Gordon Beamon, Ray Lassiter, Edward Eure, R. A. Brown, Andrew Meeder, Glenn Lilly, Jr., Harvey Lilly, Bill Jones Hinton, Aaron Lilley, Jr., Bill Eure, Alvin Eure, Ethwell Perry, Howard Wester, Glenn Webb, Charles Ellis, Fred Baines and Freddie Starling. The group traveled in Mr. Eure’s trailer. They consumed five dozen eggs for breakfast Sunday morning, he said. Another son, Staff Sg't. For rest D. White, USA, is stationed in Manila at this time and states in letters to his parents that he has made many friends in the Philippines. L. Lawrence and son, Duggie, of Suffolk. 4-H GIRLS TO MEET Eure.—'Eure 4-H club girls will meet at the school building, Sat urday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Each girl is asked to bring her project book. Plans will be made for canning contests and the 4-H dress revue to be held in Sep tember. Mrs. Ernest Smith, 4-H neighborhood leader, urges Eure 4-H girls not to miss this im portant summer meeting. ENTERTAIN AT BEACH Hobbsville. — Mr. and Mrs. Otha Riddick took the Girls’ Auxiliary and Royal Ambassa dor 'Chapter of Sandy Cross Bap tist church, with their counselors, Mrs. Alton Stallings and Mrs. Matie Spivey, respectively, on a hay ride and picnic sbpper to Holly’s Wharf recently. A nice time was had by all. Despite the shower of rain about 40 attended. To New London Gatesville.—After spending a 30-day furlough with his par-j ents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Eason, CPhM Hubert Thurston Eason left Sunday for New London, Conn., for new assignment. He is in the submarine service and has been on the USS Gabalin. A PICNIC The home demonstration club held its annual picnic with Mrs. Elijah Felton and Mrs. Lewis Felton Tuesday night. Supper of chicken, sandwiches, cakes, ice cream and iced tea was served on the lawn. About 25 members and guests were present. MARRIAGE ANNOUNCED Eure. — Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Eure of Eure announce the mar riage of- their daughter, Dorothy Mae Eure, to Kenneth Burton Legg of Norfolk, Va., on July 25. Mr. and Mrs. Leg'g will live in Norfolk, Va.
