Collins and Rev. T. Sloane Guy in the funeral services for Mrs. W. H. Smith. He was accom panied by Thurston Jolliff. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Rountree spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Hasty in Portsmouth. Mrs. Gordon Eure and son, El dridge, of Roduco, were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Howell Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Franks of Kinston were weekend guests of Mr. arid Mrs. F. E. Smith and Miss Jean Smith. Mrs. G. C. Eason is visiting relatives in Norfolk. W. N. Army, spent the weekend with his moth er, Mrs. E. L. Riddick, Sr., en route to Fort Bragg where he will receive his discharge. Mrs. R. A. Brown spent Mon day with her mother, Mrs. Net tie Russell, in Suffolk. Reginald Jones of Suffolk spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Eure. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. MERRITT PARKER BLANCHARD was married February 15 in Knoxville, Tena. Mrs. Blanchard is the former Doris Victirene Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Davis of Knoxville. Stallings-Smith Wedding Held Gatesville.—A marriage of in terest was solemnized February 28 at the Baptist pastorage in Gatesville, when Miss Mildred L. Stallings, daughter of the late Mr. Athlen and Sallie Stallings of Hobbsville, became the bride of Carlton E. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Smith of Bel vider •. Rev. I. Sloane Guy, Sr., pastor of the bride officiated, using the ring ceremony. The bride was gowned in a blue ensemble with black ac cessories and wore a corsage of red roses. After a brief wedding trip, the couple will make their home at Hobbsville. H.D. CLUB MEETS Carter’s. — On Wednesday night, February 27, members of the Carter's Home Demonstra tion club gave Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hofler a surprise party. Each member took a gift. After many games were played, drinks and cookies were served to Mrs. W. S. Wiggins and two children, Mrs. P. L. Hinton, Mrs. Hej-telle Hofler, Mrs. T. C. Corbitt, Miss Nancy Corbitt, Mrs. L. C. Carter, Mrs. B. V. Brown and Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Carter. Miss Rountree Is Married To Jack G. Snipes Portsmouth. — Miss Virginia Leigh Rountree, of Portsmouth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sornie Ralph Rountree, of Gatesville, was married Friday afternoon to Jack Grier Snipes, of Portsmouth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Bing ham Snipes, of Carthage. The wedding took place at 2 o’clock, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Simon W. Piland, in Westhaven, Portsmouth, with the Rev. R. Carter Ransome, pastor of the Westhaven Baptist Church, offi ciating at the double ring cere mony. The church was decorated with ivy, pine, white gladioli, snapdragons and lighted candles and Professor A. J. Lancaster played the wedding music. The bride was given in mar riage by her brother, John M. Rountree, of Gatesville. She wore a semi-formal wedding gown of white brocade damask, made with sweetheart neckline, brace let, length sleeves, midriff bod ice, and a very full skirt. Her finger tip veil of imported illu sion fell from a coronet of seed pearls, and she carried a shower nosegay of white carnations and sweet peas. Mrs. Carmen R. Hilton, of Nor folk, sister of the bride, was matron of honor, and wore a gown of heaven blue faille silk and net, made with a yoke of net edged with ruffling forming a V-neckline, bodice, and bouf fant skirt of net with a flounce of net ruffling. She carried a nosegay of mixed Spring flowers, with an arrangement of match ing flowers in her hair. Charles Bingham Snipes, of Cathage, was his brother’s best man. Miss Helen M. Rountree, of Gatesville, sister of the bride, was mistress of ceremonies. A reception for relatives and friends followed the ceremony and later the couple left for a southern wedding trip. Upon their return they will reside at 4222 County Street, Portsmouth. The bride wore for traveling a dressmaker suit of soldier blue gabardine with black accessories, and a corsage of gardenias.
