D. Beale, Jr., of Ayers, Mass., and Mrs. M. R. Herring of Suffolk, visited Mr. and Mrs. Harry Riddick last week. Mrs. G. C. Eason is visiting her mother, Mrs. W. H. Akers, who is sick at her home in New port News. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Parker and children visited relatives in Norfolk Sunday. Misses Mildred and Jackie Sykes of Enfield spent the holi days with their brother-in-law, Mr. Carlton Eure. Mrs. Paul Forsythe and chil dren spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. W. Henry Overman and children and visited friends in the county. They were enroute to Ashland, Va., where the Rev. Forsythe has accepted as charge. Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Overman visited Mrs. Overman’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Perry during the weekend. Misses Nelle Rose Ellis and Gloria Eason of E.C.T.C., Green ville, were weekend guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Eason and Mrs. Nellie Ellis. Jones, formerly of Gatesville and now a resident of Smithfield, Va., celebrated her 83rd birthday, Easter Sunday, at the home ot her daughter, Mrs. Stanley Car ter. A picnic dinner was served to the following: Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas, ML and Mrs. W. H. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Wombl-s, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Womble, Jr., Miss Louise Jones, Robert Womble, William Womble and Jimmie White of Norfolk, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Carson, Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Culpepper, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Brown, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Smith, Mrs. C. C. Brown, Sr., T. G. Culpepper, Jr., Earl Sweet, Douglas Carson of Portsmouth, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Nordan of Smithflsld, Pfc. The honoree was the recipient of many lovely and useful gifts. Shelton Boyce, Jr., Back irom Pacific Gatesville. — Shelton Boyce, Jr., recently returned from the Pacific theatre and honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, spent the Easter holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.'S. Boyce, here. With him were his wife and son, Robert. Boyce now lives at Newport News, Va. He was dis charged at Bainbridge, Md., after having served 18 months in the Pacific with the 4th Marine divi sion. He was on tfie front line for 18 days in the Iwo Jima en gagement.
