I hare seen psople who were in the nineties and have heard of those who were older, but never, until last Saturday, saw a Centen arian. A few nils fram Wentworth, in the family of Mrs. D. M. Molloy is a maiden lady, Miss Robeeea Adamson, whom they call Aunt Becky. Annt Becky says that the was a girl of 13 years when the war of 1812 was fought and knows much about it, If this is correct then she is over one hundred years old. Aunt Becky is in excellent health and would seon die If she could not have her scraps to make quilt squares. She sews ineessantly. She does not wear glasses and never did ; and it is remarkable tbe pretty stitehes she takes with her stiffened hands. She sits near the large fireplace and sews constantly, eily stopping now and than to punch tbe fire or to throw on a haadfulof chips. She loves a good, old time fire, such as they used t hare in her young days. Annt Becky does not hare to work, but she is streug, helps her self, and often goes out to the wood pile to gather chips, and sometimes be brings in a stick of wood that many a young woman could not earry. Aunt Becky is a living history of this country frain 1812 sp. Her mind does not graep passing ovents nor has done so for quite awhile; but she remembeis many cf the great men and the important events of her duy. She is a veritable ency dopttdia us to datesand happenings and the farther d-nvn the vista she looks the brighter she gets, But Aunt Becky is industrious and must work at her quilt squares. She is lost whon her hands are idle and would, if she were not remind oi, ofieu work on Sunday. She is an early riser and one Sunday last autumn the family got up late. While they were preparing break fast a young man came in from the barn and asked hissister wkat Aunt Becky was sharpening a knife on the grindrtone for. The lady reilied that she oftea did tbet "to have a sharp knife for tae table." But after awhile when she stepped out on the porch there sit Aunt Becky with a bag of apples sha Lad picked up in the orchard, by her side, and working away far dear life to get them ready to be put out to dry in the sun. Tho young lady said: "Awnt Becky, this is tho Sabbath, don't you know it is n sin to work today?'' Aunt Becky looked troubled and sad whon she askod: "Will the Lord forgive nse?" "Yes," said the lady, "the Lord will not hold you to an nccount for this because you did not know it was tbe Sabbath." Then jAunt Betsy's pinched fea tures relaxed and a b'ight light shone in bor face again as she quietly put her knife aside for another day. This maideu lady has lived with this family for twenty years. She in not cross or peevish. She is very do tf row and sometimes sbe catch e a word of the conversation that is going on around her which causes w to think that she is being criti risfnl. She dots not like that and d es not hesitate to lot it be known and resumes her sewing. Sometimes Annt Beoky's young f i lends tease her a little and ask her if she ever had any sweethearts. Her reply is: "Oh, yes. bad plen ty of sweethearts when I was young." ' Well, Aunt Becky, why did you never marry?" "Girls," she says, "tbe out 1 wanted I eould not get rnd them that wanted me well you know tha rest." Miss Rebeccu Adamson is indeed a remarkable woman and although she lives entirely in tho past, her mind not being able to dwell on tbe present or future, her health is so good and ber strength so great that it would not be surprising if fc.hu lives through another decade, Unclk Joe. Sen ator and Mrs, Hanna will build the couple a $20,000 mansiwn in Cleve land. An important disclosure iu the efforts of the powers to prove which was the best friend of the United States during the Spanish War develops through a letter which it is understood has been sent to Admiral Dewey by Prince Henry. The letter expresses the kindest regards and is considered as an spology from Germany to Dewey. The Prince admits the Germans made errors during tho blockadge ot Manila, and that Dewey was right in all things. Dewey is highly grutifit-d. The unpleasant relations made the sit uation embarrassing to him. He is now at Palm Beach, and will send a representative t Now York. Mrs. Dewey's health preveBts hiui from going personally. Sapp Mea Bsra After Tkclr Mather's BartsL Incredible though it may appear, it is nevertheless a fact that more than one celebrated personage was actually born after the burial of his own mother, as the following authentic incidents will amply attest: . Ebenezor Erskine, one of tho founders of the United Presbyterian church of Scotland, was born after the burial of h.s mother. Mrs. Ir skine was buried in a trance, and on one of her fingers was a valuable ring. The gravedigger knew of this, opened the coffin, and was In tli act of cutting off the ring-bearing linger when Mrs, Erskine awoke with a cry. She rose, walk ed home, and went upstairs with out havicg encountered any of her family. The footsteps overhead cat:seJ her husband to remark: "If I didna' ken my wife was lyin in the kirk yard, I wad say that wis her fctstep." Mrs. Erskine lived to become the mother of Ebenezer. It is not generally known that Gen. Leo, the netorions leader of the Southern forces during tho Civil War, was born after his mother had been buried. That lady was a victim of catalepsy, and daring one of her prolonged trances was pronounced by the physicians to be dead. The burial service was over, and the sexton was busy at his iad task, when th loud crying and knocking of the awakened woman happily leiulted in her deliverance from an awful dona.
