Reidsville Review. TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS. OLIVER BROS,, Proprietors. ONE DOLLAR PER YEAR REIDSVILLE, JULY 7, 1905 THE DISPENSARY WILL iO. The last struggle which the South Carolina dispensary system is making for its life i3 a terific one. Already gome of the most important counties in the State have repudiated the experi ment in favor of prohibition, the last Legislature enacting a law which will only permit of prohibition when the dispensary is voted out. The situation in other counties is interesting, and more of them may follow suit. It has been stated in the press dis patches for Borne time that Senator unman, wnu uauuicu uic ojoran mien it was established to defeat the will of the people who wanted prohibition, was of late "easy" on the subject and declined to be interviewed. Tuesday, however, he spoke at Greenville and in part relieved the anxiety of his constit uents by asserting that unless the business was scalded and cleaned it would be wiped out; and that he would be in the campaign this fall again and would continue, as before "to call a spade a spade and a thief a teief." No doubt Senator Tilln.an is shrewd enough to see the hand-writing on the wall, and is setting his sails to go with the over-whelming anti-dispensary tide which has now set in. y Here's hoping that this tidal wave will brush this body of death aside, and that our esteemed friend, Katliffe, of Anderson, will free himself from the octopus beforehand. the 30 delegates at the meeting of theirginia and North Carolina Press Association, in session at Asheville, are being given "the time of their lives" gure enough. The entire party was invited to lunch with the multi-million aire Vanderbilt at his Biltmore estate, a consideration never before shown an association or convention. No doubt the Asheville physicians had plenty of business next day. There are several of our young men who could very easily form a stock mmnativ unH moniif rot nro aumn nrlifliu in furniture here in Reidsville. These enterprises are paying handsome divi denda in other places, and can be made to do so here. There is plenty oj idle money here which ought to be inter ested, and there are several buildings which could be utilized. The Commissioners of Forsyth had ordered the execution of a white man, Hammond, a wife-murdir.T, to be public, but public Bentiment was so aroused this action was re cind ed. It is said that an act of the Legis lature of .1901 would have prevented any public execution. It will be learned some day by all the business men that at the Bmall profits at which goods are now sold indefinite credit cannot be extended, or favors shown those who do not deserve them. It seems an unusual number of deaths have occurred over the couutry this week from cyclones, storms and acci dents, but these do not interest Us like they would if they were nearer home Governor Glenn was the principal speaker in a meeting at Tammany Hall Tuesday night and received a -great deal of favorable notice even in so large a place as New Yoik. Cotton has been almost to 1 1 cents this week and some people have made fortunes, but they were not the South em farmers. Nearly all the crimes committed here can be credited to idleness. The eilrl Who l't. Have you ever happened to meet the f ill who in alMi" posing?' ..There are girls, - and many' of tlicni, v ho are afflicted with this habit, and it is, in deed, a bad one. Just give her a wat within range of a mirror, or the visions of soiiih few "persons, and she is coim-ut ; give her a Minpatlietic listener, a pair of admiring eyett and tliat is all sIih asks. Her one redeeming feature is the fact that she had rather pose than talk. Hef nileiu e is to those near her, really golden. At home the mirror is this girl's most roustant companion, and before it she studies herself in every conceivable attitude, looking for her best .point ho that she' may show them,: If she lias one really good feature that is brought into effect at all times; it is never allowed to go unobserved. Her com pan ions and friends are never allowed to forget for one .moment that she possesses that feature. The girl who poses never forgets herself and her attitudes long enough to .do", things for which she might be loved. She is generally not -..popular with either sex, for she is too obvious ly seekiug effect. There is nothing genuine altout her. . CHOLERA INFANT! M. Child Not Expected to Live from One Hour to Another, but Cured by Chamberlain's, Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea lUmedy. Ruth, the little daughter of E N Dewey, of Agnewville, Va, was serious ly ill of cholera infantum last summer' "We gave her up and did not expect her to live from one hour to another," he says. I happened to think of Cham berlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy and got a bottle of it from the store. In five hours I saw a change for the better. We kept on giving it and before she had taken the half of one small bottle ahe was well." This rem edy is for sale at Brittain's drug store. On yesterday the Henkle Live Stock Co, purchased the Patterson farm, lyiug in Statesville township, and containing (15 acres. The consideration was t'4,200. - We are told that this land has been held at f 1300 until the ma cadam road was made by it and the value has been euhanced $1,000 on ac count of this. This is no doubt a tact and if the farmers of the comity could realize tho advantages of a good road aud how much value it would add to their farm there would be no trouble to secure fuuds to make all the county roads macadam. Will Orarge, colored, if reports be true, stands within the shadow of the gollows. He is under arrest here for haying whipied his wife unmercifully, thereby causing the death and premature hirth of twin babies last week, which was also followed by the death of his wife yesterday morning. Orange, who is scarcely more than a boy, was married to a daughter of Sher man Pickard, and has been employed by the Rockingham club, Dr. Brooks, D. R. Ellington and others. Recently he spent most of his time in idleness, and two weeks ago assaulted his wife, striking her wiih sticks, chairs and other deadly weaoons, and the home was made to present a scene resembling the track of a cyclone. The woman was in a desperate condi tion, and her suffering intense. Dr. T. E. Balsley attended her, and will be an important witness for the State. Chief of Police Pettigrew issued a warrant for Orange, and together with Officer Jaokson went to accomplish his arrest. The negro saw them approach ing and fled. The warrant was turned over to Sheriff Pinnix, who wired the nearby points. The deputy-sheriff at Pelham captured the fugitive within a few hours, and Deputy Lamberth went down last night, returning this morning with the prisoner. , A preliminary trial will be held this afternoon. To the Pubuc My two drays are now run by Newt Whitsett and John Galloway, both very reliable men and will appreciate your patronage.
