Those who wish the paper delivered by the city mail car riers will please notify us and remit $1.00 ,per year extra for postage. We find that nearly all of our city subscribers prefer having their pa per mailed at the postofflee Instead of by our own carrier service vhch we have maintained for the past few weeks. Less than 20 subscribers have expressed a preference for delivery m this way. Therefore, our delivery service, which, has mot proven popu lar, will be discontinued beginning with this week. Mr. A. N. Smith, a clever ana hard-working young farmer on Route 1, wbb in town yesterday and gave The Review office a call. Our Jolly farmer friend, Mr. A. N. "The Woman's Store" advises early shopping for the Christmas tirade. Mr. R, L. Somers, a prominent farmer of Alamance county, sold to bacco here Friday and was very well pleased with prices. He says prices have advanced about 20 per cent, in the last two weeks. A district meeting of the public school teachers f this county will be held at Madison on Saturday, De cember 4th, beginning promptly at 10:30 a. m. The meeting will be beld in the Madison Graded School build " ing. A hunting party composed of Messrs. Hugh Daniels, Jack Troxler, Tom Martn, E. O. Gatlin and Dr. Troxler, caught four 'possums, one wild-cad and one 'possum kitten Sat urday night near Brown Summit, on Reedy Fork. Married, at New Hope church Sun day morning, Miss Maude Windsor and Mr. W. R. French, two popular young people of the county. The ceremony was performed by Rev. G. M. Trent. A large crowd was present and witnessed the ceemony. Mr. Frank Smithy, of Mclver, bad tobacco here yesterday and was wall please with prices. He says the "revenuers" are keeping a sharp watch for contraband liquor In his section and are doing their best to break up the ttrafflc. A keg of liquor was found In one ut his neighbor's barns by Deputy Collector S. T. Neal last Tuesday. No arrests were made. Mr. J. D. McKlnney of near Gilliams Academy was In town Saturday and called to pay his respects to The Review. Judge ('line showed his surprise ut court one day last week when an Intelligent looking man on Hie stand stated that he could not write. The man conversed well and surely did not look as Ignorant as he claimed he was. This man should be Lfought into a moonlight school and given a chance. A handsome electric Ford Automobile sign will also be put on the front of the building. Mr. R. A, (Carroll, a prominem farmer on Route 2, gave us a very pleasant call Friday. Mr. Carroll is strongly opposed to the administra tion's preparedness program and thinks Congress would make a great mistake in committing the country to such an expensive military and naval Increase of expenditures. Mr. Wade Rankin, formerly of this county, was painfully hurt in an au tomobile accident near Fayetteville several days ago since which time he has been In a Fayetteville hospital for treatment. Mr. Rankin and companion were riding in an automo bile and in turning to allow a buggy to nass the car turned over. Mr. Rankin had five or six ribs broken and It is thought suffered internal in juries. His condition, according to renorts from the Fayetteville hos pital, Is critical. Mrs Temple Lewey of the Sharon neighborhood, whose death occurred las Monday., mention of which was made In the last issue of The Review was probably the oldest woman in fihn omntv. She was 97 years and eight months old. She left two sons and three daughters, all prominent eltiizens of the '. coun ty, and a great many grand-children and other kin dred. Mrs. Lewey was raised in Ala mance county liut came to this county while a young girl, where she has re sided ever since. She was a splen did woman and had a wide circle of friends. Mr, J. A. Tally of near Lawsonvllle was in town yesterday and gave us a very much apreciated call. Mr. Tally is not) only a good farmer but is one of thecounrty's most loyal citizens. He patronizes the homo market ex clusively and says he has never seen where he could save anything by sell ing and buying in outsldo towns. "Besides," he says, as a citizen of tho county, he feels IK his duty to help build up his county town, behev ing this to be for his own best inter ests in the end. If every citizen of this county was as loyal and patriotic as Mr. Tally, the old county would soon fciloom like a rose.
