AMERICA FIRST AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY FINANCE FOB WLSON and nil TOR PEACE REPAEEDNTSS and TROSPEHTY A PROFITABLE ENTERPRISE. Messrs. Scott, McColIough & Chir;i ley, of Charlotte, certified public ac countants, have Just finished an audit of the books of the dty' of .Reidsville. and their analysis of the operations of the different departments o' the city government Is of special interest to our people in view of the pending egotiations with the Southern Pub Mc Utilitiea Company with reference to Relllng but the Reidsville electric light plant to that corporation. Without giving the figures in detail at present (which will later be pub llshed in full) the statement shows - that (he total operating revenue of ine iigni uenanment tor the year ending May 31, 1916, was 124,745.00. The total operating expenses of the name were $12,750.33. The not ope atfng revenue was $11,995.27. Less Interest on bonds, $1,250.00; or a not profit of the electric light department of $10,745.27r-The4)le(!trie power pro. duced for the year was 526,950 k.w.h Cost, exclusive of interest on b:tid.t, .0242 per k.w.h. The operations of the water depart ment did not make such a favorable financial showing. The total opera ting expenses were $14,504.55, with a rross operating revenue of $10,71 7.0(5, or a, net loss In operation of $3,847.49. Including interest on bonds, $2,500.00, the total loss In operation of the wa ter department was $0,347.49. It is thus shown that the electric light department made a net profit of $10,745.27 after paying 'Interest on bonds and depreciation of plant. 1'hl'n. Is at the rate of 5 per cent, on 2. !!'.'.'-. 705.40. To combine the two departments - deducting the loss of the water de partment, Including Interest on bond i. leaves a net protit on the combined plants of $4,397.78, or 5 per cent on an investment of $87,955,60. The statement shows that the cost of producing electric power was very economical for a steam plant. A( a matter of fact thore Is a saving of about $3,000.00 in the cost of coal alone over the preceding twolvj months. This was largely brought about by having the engines and boilers . .overhauled and other im provements made. : These ' figures show conclusively Most of the county public schools will open on Monday, October lCih. It Is believed that the best personnel of teachers has been employed that has ever taught in our public schools. Oa Thursday evening of last week, in honor of Mr. Jessla Robertson and Mrs. Grade Kemp Johnson who are to be married on the night of thi 14th of this month, and Messrs. Tom Covington and Hugh Johnson who will leave for Shanghai, China, on the 21st, Miss Mary L. Clack delightfully entertained a party of young friends.. After a supper prepared and served as only Miss Mamie can prepare and serve a supper, at which, according to the charm of the bride's cake, Miss Pearl Covington was destined to sew for a living. Mr. Hugh Johnson to be come the wealthy member of tho party, Mr. Edd Covington to be next married and Mr. Robt. Jackson re ceived tho bachelor's button, the guests were invited into the parlor where rook and love-making were In happy progress. After several hours of pleasant pastime each partieipanj was asked to be present at Green wood Chapel at seven-thirty Saturday evening when the impressive marriage Is to take place, and- where MUa Mamie has charge of the arrange ments of the ceremony that is to make the contracting parties happy ever afterward. At a late hour the Jolly party went home, each declaring he had speat one of the most pleasant evenings of his life, as every one does who shares a welcome to Miss Mamie's home and feels the pleasure of her presence, Z. The Review and Bryan's I Commoner $2.00 Tier year. that the city of Reidsvil'o would be making a Very poor bargain t sell out its electric light plant for $30.eoo to a foreign corporation. The not earnings on tho: electric light pi. ti't are over 33 per cent per annum on $30,000. In this connection The Review would call attention to the fact, that while the cost of producing power in the home plant is not quite 2 l-2c. per k.w.h it Is probable that this cost in the current could be reduced 40 or 50 per cent, by connecting with the Southern Power Company. It would Beetn a wise course to hold on to our electric light plant as a good thing and take steps to reduce the cost of operations and a correspond ing increase In profits by securing hydro electric curnent from tha Southern Power Company or some other similar company. . o Gentle But Sure. On last Friday night about fifty of the young people of Summerfleld en joyed immensely a brunswick stew given in honor of Miss Sadie Walker at the hospitable home of Mr.-'nd Mrs. H. II. Wilson. Miss Walker and Mr. Hugh Wilson have the honor of being excellent .cooks, as they togeth er prepared the vegetables, chickens, etc,- for the stew and also supervised the 'cooking of it. . The beautiful 9 moonlight evening was partly spent In playing games out in the grfind old grove of oaks. About half-past eight o'clock all were invited to a long t? ble on the lawn which was beautifully decorated with roses and which also supported a boil n t i t'ul Isupp I y of stew and pyramids of loaf bread so that all present ate and were filled, and as In days of oldv great buckets full of the fragments were gathered up after the feast. Then the joyous assembly re paired to the house where they were entertained by music, pleasant games. fortune telling, etc. Later, just be fore separating for the night, large waiters of luscious apples were pass ed around. Shortly after ten o'clock pleasures of the evening were ev pressed, good nights spoken, and each went home hoping that anouier evening as pleasant socially might be spent together. B. l I i . v.'rr. TO MY FARMER FRIENDS: I am glad to say that tobacco is selling at very satisfactory prices and all of my customers are highly pleased with returns. I am making the highest averages ever made iu any previous year on this market for the same grades of tobacco. There is a keen demand for all colnry tobacco and bright smokers and cutters are especially sought after. In grading your tobacco J: careful to not mix fillers with your smokers, as it hurts the sale of the latter. Get your tobacco in good order and when ready to market, drive straight to Watt's Leader Warehouse where yon will always find good accomodations and can count on getting the tcp of ike market.
