Mr. Elwood Amos, who is attending Oak Itidge school, spent the week-end uith his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Amos. Young Amos will graduate at this well-known school this term. The home of Mr. It. J. C. Stone, the !in-rchant-farmer of Harrisons's Cross !:.oiuls was consumed by fire Satur f ii y. There has been a regular epi lemic of fires in this county the past veek. The home and contents of Mr. Jack Saunders of near Speedwell church were consumed by fire Friday night. The origin of the fire is unknown. The building was only partially covered by insurance. The congregation of (he Baptist church here on Sunday voted to give tneir pasfor, Rev. E. N. Amos of hi'h Point spent Sunday on a visit to their father, Mr, J. T. Amos, near tha iity. Mrs. C. L. Alios, and little son, who have been spending some time here, returned with them. Mrs. F. It. I'enn is in a Uichmoi hospital under treatment. Her man.' friends are deeply concerned over he. Mate of health, her sons and daugh ters are all at her bedside. Encourag ing reports of her condition were re teived 'here yesterday morning. The following telegram from Gen B. S. Royster is published for the infor mation of all concerned: "Secretary War directs that you be Informed that it is policy War Dept. to discharge all men who have enlisted since declar ation of war upon termination of emer gency..- This to apply to regular Army and National Guard." The two Stokes prisoners,' sentenced to terms on the Rockingham county roads at the recent term of Stokes court, were taken to Rockingham Thursday by Deputy Sheriff Estes of hat county. The prisoners were both negroes, Luther Allen and George Evans. The former was sent up for eight months and the latter for four months. Danbury Repoter. Work on construction of two of the main highways in Rockingham county, N. C, was begun several weeks ago. J. T. Plott Is the contrac tor In charge. When stretches are built in this county there will be a completed highway from Virginia to the South Carolina line In a bee line across the piedmont section of North arollna. Southern Good Roads. Capt. W. n. Millner Is In receipt of tne following telegram from Gen. B. S. Mrs. Sarah Mines of Milton was stricken with paralysis Saturday and her condition is considered ver criti cal. Mrs. Ilines formerly live hi Ueidsville and has many friends anu4 acquaintances here who deeply regret to learn of the good lady's affliction. The revival meeting at the First Baptist church continues. The Inter est is growing. A great crowd of men greeted the evangelist, Rev. Mr. Ow 'Uis at the Men's Meeting Sunday af ternoon. The preacher gave a telling discussion on ""What Has Become of Hell" to a packed house. Services are being held at 3:30 and 8 p. m. each day. Mr. R. W. McCollum. while engaged in vulcanizing a tire at Amos' garage Saturday night, upset a small can of .asolene which caught on fire and spattered on him. He was severly turned on the hands and shoulder and breast before the flames were ex tinguished. His burns, while very painful, are not considered dangerous and he is getting along very nicely. Walter Diamond, the 21 years-old son of Mr. W. P, Diamond of Forshee, a student at Monticello High School, lost his balance while sitting on the porch banlsterft and fell on his head. Death resulted from his injuries. He was a bright young man and was one of the graduates of the Monticello school. He was burled Saturday, the day he was to have received his gradu ating diploma. Mr. Henry B. Clark and Miss Marion Wray "stole a march" on their friends going to Salisbury Friday night where at the home of Rev. W. A. Lam both they were united In marriage The bride Is the very attractive daugh ter of ex-Sheriff and Mrs.' Win. B. Wray and Mr. Clark holds a responsi ble position in the postofflce.
