Mr, Manuel Fels has returned from Akron, Ohio, where he held a fine position for some time past. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Irvin will at tend the Bankers' Association at Wrightsville Beach this week. S. S. The weather for several days past has been unusually cool for the sea son. Farmiers have had a fine oppor tunity for workng but and getting the crops free from grass. 'Squire W. I. Witty of New Bethel township was in town Friday and gave us an appreciative call. He eays conditions are very good In his section and the farmers are in flue spirits. Mrs. S. S. Porter entertained a large number at a most enjoyable party, .Thuraday night, honoring Miss Hilda Meredith of Cambridge, Md. Games and dancing were enjoyed until a late hour and refreshments were served. Wheat harvesting Is la full blast this week. The weather is Ideal for saving the crop in good condition. Wheat has shown great Improvement recently and ft Is now believed this section will produce more than an average crop, Mrs. Wm. F. Dixon of Norfolk, Va., arrived in Reldsville Friday for a visit of several weeks to friends and rela tives. Mr. Dixon who Is employed as traveling salesman of Eastern North Carolina for It. G. Dun & Company, will spend a vacation of two or three wleeks here In July. Capt. A. J. Ellington will be the auctoneer at Watt's Warehouse the coming tobacco year. His many friends will be glad to know that he will again be identified with the Reldsville mark, et. Walter Swann are in Wrightsville attending the Hardware Conventon. They were accompanied by Misses Minnie Lee and Ursa Whittemore. The wise farmer will raise (enough stuff to eat for home consumption and then such other "money crops" as he can. Let us hope that there are an abundance of wise farmers In Rockingham and Stoktes counties, as j well as throughout the entire South. Mr. J. Mart Jones of Ftzgerald, Ga., pent the week-end with his family near town. Mr. Jones Is a tobacco demonstrator and says the crop in that section has all Ixeen topped. Miss Nettie Harris entertained a number of her girl friends at her home on East Market street Friday afternoon from 5:00 to 6:30 p. in. The occasion was in honor of Mrs. John Hurdle, a recent bride. A guessing fontiest, "Love in a kitchen," was play- ed at the conclusion of which Miss ! Evelyn Allen was found to be the suc cessful one and was presented with a handsome crepe de chene handkor chfef. The guest of honor, Mrs. Hurdle, was also presented with a handsome repe de chena handkerchief. After the contest the guests were sierved a A '-liclous Falad course followed with i'-es. Those enjoying the "hospitality of Miss Harris were Mrs. John Hurdle, Migees Evelyn Allen, Margaret Wo Biack.Corinna Johnston, Edith- Pipkin, Miss Meta Palmer of Greenville, S. C. arrived a few days ago and is now chief operator at the local telephone exchange. Mrs. J. F. Wray. Mrs. Scott Fill man, Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Scales, and Mtes Frances Scales motored to Winston-Salem for a week-end visit. Road work in this county is going forward at ' a rapid clip. There are at preslent six camps (the convict camps not included) and over two hundred laborers at work building thoroughfares on contract. Rocking ham is destined to take the lead in road building during the next year at 'least, , : Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Jarrett of Route 2 were In town shopping Friday and called in to pay their- respects to thle Review. Mrs. Jarrett showed us an interesting relic, a folding tooth pick made from bone, which her father-in-law, Mr, J. F. Jarrett, obtained from oiite of the Yankee prisoners who Bpent some time In prison. No. 3 at Danville during the War Between the States. The toothpick is an Ingenious piece of work and quite an interesting relic which the Jarriett family prizes highly. The Great Public Sale conducted by the New York Bargain House is on in dead earnest and people from many miles around are taking advantage of the wonderful bargains that are of fered during the ten days' sale. Mr. Banie is putting forth every effort to make this sale one of the most suc cessful sates ever conducted In this city. Mr. Webster and sons, Robert and Gordon, conduct a warehouse at Madison, and hie stales that the prospect for the next season is very encouraging. Indications are that all dealers and manufacturers will be represented by buyers when the season opens. Mr. Webster re ported that his firm will open a ware house at Tabor, Columbus '. county, about the middle of July and they ex pect to handle much of the eastern crop In this section. Western Senti nel. 1 News was received here yesterday afternoon of thk death In Lexington Ky., of Mose H. Irvin for several years a member of the tobacco brotherhood In Danville and associated with the fira. of PIbrell Bros. Mr, Irvin who was a son of J. L. Irvin of Milton had been ill for some weeks, complications growing out of what was first regard ed as a slight indisposition. The de ceased who was unmarried was in Danville between the years of 18S3 and 1901 and Las many friends here. Madison Messenger, The Pettigrew Real Estate, Rental & Ins. Agency contest closed Friday. He was standing on the bank of a ditch about two feet deep, when the bank caved in, the. little boy falling on his arm. He is doing fine at present, going about his usual play. The lawn fete Friday night under auspices of the local RJed Cross chap ter was a success in every particular. A neat sum was realized from the affair. The Reldsville chapter is a live wire. The kind of men who span continents with railroads, furrow the seven seas with giant steamships or handle the finan ces of nations that Is the kind of men needed for the work of thle Red Cross.
