When you try this market with a load of tobacco try this Bank with a de posit. Two kinds of interest, person al and 4 per cent. R. S. MONTGOMERY, Pres. SCOTT FILLMAN, Cashier. B. L. While men drafted for army ser vice anel being paused on by local board in the order in which they were drawn In Washington uly 20, It seems that order will not be strict ly observed In sending thorn to oaimp. This, however, is BOt a hop to lean on. The rejections on tho final tost will probably be few. Drafted men from this county will be f-nt to Columbia, S. C. Don't fail to read the advertisement In this lswue of the land sale known as the Reid Place, and note the change In the date of sale from August 28th to Sept. 1st. and note also that the property"will not be sold on the prem ises, but will be sold In front of the Citizens bank In the town of Reids ville. Tobacco sales have been light since tho opening of the local market, due to the farmers being so busy saving the fast ripeinlng tobacco that they do not have time to market much. Prices on primings are very good in deed, the average so far being around 15c. This is an unusual average for first offerings of sand leaves. The baseball admirers of Bunn Ilearne and they ore legion will eagerly read the Item panned by a Richmond sport scribe as to the North Carolinian's winning record and his team's grasp for the pennant in the Internatlonl League: "Bunny Ilearne of Toronto, whose record of nineteen victories and six defeats staunps him as the leading pitcher in the Interna tional League, probably will go up this year. Private Tony Pulliam of the Relds vllle company stole a march on bis comrades Sunday by going over to Leaksivllle where he was united in marriage to Miss May White, an at tractle young lady of that place. The grom is a popular young soldier and was with his company on the Mexican border last year. The Reidsville soldiers are liable to be called away any day now. AU other towns are arranging to givetheir soldier boys farewell dinners and ReictsrVille must not be the only town omitting a fitting farewell to its sol dier boys. Judge Ira R. Humphreys has consented to act as chairman of a commute to be apointed to raise funds for such a, farewell dinner and it Is to be hoped our people will heartily cooperate In the undertaking There Is no tlmeto lose, however, and a committee should be appointed t once to push the work. Judge Hum phreys will appreciate any sugges tions from citizen along this line. What is to be done should be done quickly. The local exemption board has not completed tb.eiflvork of passing upon claims of atrants for exemptions in the first dfalt yet, hence the num ber that will be certified from this county to the district board for mil itary service cannot now be accurately stated. It Is known that the board turned down the claims of quite a lot of those who a sked for exemp tions on the grounds of dependent relatives. Mr. A. D. Ivie, one of the members of the board had to attend Yanceyllle court the first of the week and his absence will delay final certi fication of the first draft It Is gen erally believed it will be necessary to make a second call to complete the county's quota. A number of registrants who did not put in exemp tion claims before the county board have- filed claims on occupational grounds before the district board, we understand.
