In recommending Thed ford's Black-Draught to her friends and neighbors here, Mrs.T. F. MUNITY, Young People love to play the AEOLUN-VOCALION 7 "AHEY can actually develop their natural "ear for music" by playing: this wonderful phonograph. Its ex clusive expression control, the V Graduola, permits them to vary the volume and accents as they please. The tone of the Vocalion is so clear, so rich, so true to life that both children and grown-ups the country over, have named it "The Ideal Phonograph". It raises money and pays it to the teachers' in order that the community may, be uplifted. The people of the community should care fojr their children and so be Inter ested In the man or woman who Is their instructor. They send to the school bright, etupidj industrious lazy) well-be-haved, impudent children, not with the idea that the teachers shall teach those that are able and will ing to work, not for a decision that such a child is not fit for school, but for having each . child improved. Thte ia the task that confronts a teacher when he or she comes into the community to take charge of a school. Every teacher has high am bitions and noble alms or should have; however, the community must help in carrying out these purposes and In my opinion plays an impor tant part in making a success or failure of the school. . Parents of the county children be fair to your teachers: encouraee them in their work: visit the school room and let them know you are In svmnathv with them in their work; know your leather personally, for you are trusting your child tn nis or her care five days in the week. More important: be lair to your communltv which a . generation hence will be run bv ' these chil dren whom these teachers are' train ing for their future rei'ponsi'-'lUv. One of the most important and most discussed onestions we heaf todov Jr the ouestion of onmr.uni'v organization by which means the community may be drawn closer toe-ether in those things in wnich thre is a common interest. sn-h as education, relielon. sociableness, in dustry, etc. I think r.r.e of the nnst commendable recommendations that was made at the Citizens Conference in Greensboro last snrfng was the one reeomimending that, a teacher 'be employed for 'the 12 months ne- Viod in order to maintain and guMe the community program of the school.' ; : : The school as? a community center imnlies that the school may pro mote activities and provide oppor tnnfMes for the expression of the fundamental instincts of play, of discussion and of search for the truth; - I do hone that every school In the county will become a community Center and teachers and parents will be drawn nearer together and will cooperate in, all movements that will benefit not only the children but. will bring up the life of the community to the highest degree of Hvinr. -for it is education that finds and brines out for us the noblest nnd ' best. VIRGINIA Housekeeping today is not what It used to be. i One hundred yean ago our great grandmothers apun the cloth and made the clothes for the family. They employed the family cobbler for a week at a time, who made shoes for the year from leather cured and tanned on the premises. They baked the bread, churned the butter, cured the meat, and made the candles ; In short, housed under their roofs ail ths activities that ministered to the necessities and comforts of the family. Today all these processes are car ried on outside of the home. The shoes 'are made in factories, tha clothes go through the sweatshops,; the meat is cured by big companies, tha bread Is made at the bakeries, and the butter comes from the cream eries. ; Instead of living In houses open on all sides to the sun, we bave the tene ment bouse; Instead of water directly from a well or spring, we have piped water; Instead of the simple problem of letting the small amonn of gar bage decay in the sun, we havs tha vast problem of a city's disposal. All of these matters of food, clothes, housing, water and garbage are sub ject to legislation. The state has taken the place of the parents. The question of regulation of all of these matters ; so vital to a housekeeper is one of .' collective opinion, expressed by the ballot ASPIRIN Name "Bayer" on Genuine V B A tin ... b vy "Bayer Tablets of Aspirin" Is gen uine Aspirin proved safe by millions and prescribed by physicians for over twenty years.
