Maguire and Attorney Frank Whitaker attended the District Republican Convention in ses sion at Greensboro Wednesday. Mr. Jones Holcomb left Mon day for a business trip to Chica go, 111., from Chicago he will go to Oscaloosa, lowa to be the guest of his aunt, Mrs. Dolly Mc- Call. for several days. Messrs W. S. Reich and C. G. Armfield attended a meeting of the fifth district Building and Loan Association at the King Cotton Hotel in Greensboro Sat urday evening. Mr. nd Mrs. C. G. Armfield and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ray at tended the Lion's Club banquet at the American Legion Hall at Statesville Friday evening which was followed by a dance at fhe Country Club. Marion Allen, who has been the guest of relatives in McCall, S. C., returned to her home here Thursday. Mr. Allen went down to accompany her home. Miss Lucille Bodenheirner re turned to Winston-Salem Mon day after spending her spring vacation here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Bodenheirner at their home on Elk Spur Street. C., was the guest of her sister, Mrs. Paul Gwyn and Mr. Gwyn at their home on Gwyn Avenue over the week-end. Mrs. I. A. Eldridge of State Road spent Thursday with her mother, Mrs. F. VT. Norman on Gwyn Avenue. Misses Elizabeth Anderson and Clara Bell and Mrs. W. W. Whit aker left Tuesday afternoon for Washington, D. C., where they will attend the convention for' the pupils and sponsors for the night schools of the North Caro lina Federation of Woman's clubs. The pupils who will go with the instructors and sponsor of the local school are, Mrs. Sarah Turner and W. H. Lewis. There will be approximately two hundred people from North Car olina. among them will be Mrs. E. M. Land of Statesville, State President of the North Carolina Federation and Mr. W. T. Allen of Raleigh, State Superintendent of Schools. ORDER NEW SURVEY OF BOONVILLE ROAD First steps toward a new Bonville road were taken at Ral eigh this week when the . state highway forces were ordered to survey the Yadkin county road from Enon to Boonville on route 60, preliminary to the state tak ing over the road. Commissioner Hanes advised that 'the engineers look over two or three possible routes for the road It will probably run by the way of East Bend. N9 mention was made at the capital of ex tending the road on to Jonesville at this time.
