Mrs. Wade Talley, who is visiting
her daughter, Mrs. Lem Osborne, has
been very sick for several days, bus
is some better at this writing. Mr.
Talley of Winston-Salem, spent the
week-end here.
There will be prayer meeting at
the home of T6m Rose out in the
country, on Saturday night.
Misses Reba and Beulah Adams,
and Clyde Adams, spent Sunday in
North Wilkesboro visiting friends.

The seventeenth annual Baptist
training union for the Yadkin as
sociation met at Sandy Springs
church Sunday, June 30, at 2
o'clock. Following intrductory re
marks by the president, F. A. Line
berry, of Jonesville, Mr. W. E. Bur
rus, of Boonville, led the devotional
and gave an interesting talk on the
! importance of training our youth in
the Master's work. Other speakers
for the afternoon were Gwyn Sher
mer of Forbush and Miss Ruth Hon
eycutt of East Bend. Each of these
young people gave very inspirational
talks. The main address was de
livered by Rev. E. W. Fox, pastor of
the Elkin Methodist church. His
subject was "What Shall I Do?" He
brought a forceful and timely mes
sage. Another interesting feature of
the afternoon program was the Bible
quiz, better known to B. Y. P. U.
folks as a sword drill. First place
in the Intermediate group was won
by Carrie Taylor from the Jones
ville B. Y. P. U. Second place was
won by Loraine Lineberry, also of
Jonesville. First place in the Junior
group was won by Mattie White
Tomlinson, of Ekst Bend. Leo Wag
oner and Virginia Lineberry, of the
Jonesville B. Y. P. U. tied and won
second place. The first prize awards
were beautiful souvenir B. Y. P. U.
pins. Special music for the after
noon was rendered by a quartet from
Yadkinville and a violin soloist, Sid
ney Jones, rendered "The Old Rug
ged Cross", accompanied by Mrs. D.
G. Renegar, at the piano. Follow
ing the afternoon session a bounti
ful picnic lunch was served from
a table on the lawn, of the church.
The evening, service began at 7
o'clock. The Sandy Springs young
people presented a playlet entitled
"Spring", which was greatly en
joyed by all. Mrs. M. A. Holcomb
brought a beautiful word picture of
Ridgecrest and a plea to all who are
planning a vacation to spend it
thei*e at the Baptist playgrounds.
Rev. Avery Church, pastor of the
Jonesville Baptist church, was guest
speaker for the evening and his
subject "Workmen", quoting, for his
text 2nd Timothy, 2:15. Following
a hymn by the congregation the
election and installation of officers
was held. Next year's convention
will meet with Yadkinville Baptist
church the fifth Sunday in May.

Mrs. M. A. Ilolcomb Entertains Rose
Marlowe Circle
The Rose Marlowe circle of the
Jonesville Baptist church met at the
home of Mrs. M. A. Holcomb with
13 members and one visitor present.
Mrs. Jack Brown had charge of the
program. The topic for discussion
was "The Challenge of Modern
Conditions_to Uplift the Banner of
the Cross in Africa." The lesson
was discussed as follows: " Mrs. D.
R. Casstevens discussed "Problems
Old and New"; Bertha Adams dis
cussed "Lifting the Banner of the
Cross In Africa"; Mrs. W. F. Mc-
Bride discussed "Nigeria" and Mrs.
Lester Holloway discussed "Our
Work In Nigeria."
Two new members were, added to
the circle. After the business meet
ing those present enjoyed a water
melon feast.

The Elkin Bottling company, of
this city, has accepted the dealer
ship of a firm with a branch in
Aberdeen to buy blackberries in
Elkin, and buying will start Mon
day, July 8, at the Elkin bottling
company building on South Bridge
street.
One hundred tons can be handled
by the dealer here, it was learned
Tuesday, and the price to be paid
is one and one-half cents per pound.
It was pointed out that the berries
must be delivered here in good con
dition not later than 24 hours after
being picked.
It is expected that the unlimited
market for blackberries will provide
a considerable source of income to
the people in'the surrounding rural
areas.
